Victoria @ Portland, Oregon
June 12-133, 2004 (Portland, OR)
The Victoria Traveller's Inn squad took
two games Saturday night over the host Portland DeMarini team.
Sunday's doubleheader exhibition games were reduced to a single game
as pitcher Rich Smith (VTI) pulled a hamstring warming up. Victoria
took the win on Sunday as well. A hat-trick?
Game #1 Saturday, June 12th - Erv Lind
Stadium - Portland -
NORWEST LEAGUE GAME
Victoria Traveller's Inn 4 runs
6 hits 2 errors 3 LOB
Portland DeMarini 1 run
7 hits 0 errors 10 LOB
Homeruns: Bobroske, Victoria
The difference in the ballgame was a two
strike, two out, 3 run homerun by Victoria's Kevin Broboske in the
3rd inning. He took a high riseball over the fence to give Rick
Smith all the cushion he needed in this one.
Portland had their chances, stranding 10
baserunners in the game, but Smith got tough when he needed to be.
Broboske got all 4 rbi's for the victorious Canadian squad. Roberto
Bahler threw well for Portland in a losing effort.

Victoria Traveller's Inn 6 runs

Portland DeMarini 0 runs 3

McKenzie had it going in this one
tossing a 3 hit shutout with 16 k's. The big righthander had things
his way all night long. Dave Drotzman threw well in defeat as his
defense let him down in a 5 run 4th inning. Errors proved very
costly for Portland as Drotzman only gave up one earned run.
Still, it was McKenzie's nite.
Game #3 Sunday, June 13th - Erv Lind
Stadium - Portland - Exhibition Game
Victoria Traveller's Inn 4 runs 8
hits 0 errors 7 LOB
Portland DeMarini 3 runs 4 hits

Errors hurt Portland as Victoria scored
4 runs in a big second inning to hold off a late Portland rally.
Zenon Winters had two hits and an rbi to give him a 6 for 12 weekend
with 4 rbi's to lead VTI. Kevin Broboske also had two hits on
Sunday for Victoria. Jim Perkins walked to start the sixth inning
for Portland followed by a Brian Ree double. Next hitter, Rob
Broberg hit a 2-run double off the centerfield fence to close the
lead to one run for DeMarini, but McKenzie slammed the door to end
the rally with a strikeout and pop-up. Roberto Bahler threw well
again for Portland giving up just one earned run.
Both teams will be in Victoria next
weekend for the ISC qualifier. #6 ISC ranked Victoria travels to
Portland the following weekend for the Portland DeMarini Rose Cup
