From the 252 minor league baseball teams, CNBC picked the top 64 logos. After a couple rounds of head to head match-ups, it was down to the Sweet Sixteeen, then the Elite Eight, to Final Four. Now, it’s come down to the two finalists — and my brother Bob’s Wichita Wingnuts are battling for the top spot in all of minor league baseball.

A bit more about my brother and his new team for 2008, the Wichita Wingnuts, here in an earlier post.

As the CNBC website says:

“Please take your vote seriously. There’s a lot on the line here.”

SCIFL Recap of Flor de Cana Win at Palm Springs I

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

From the March 15-16 League Weekend at Palm Springs:

From the official SCIFL website:

A-Division Championship Game: Flor de Caña (10) – Panteras II (6)

By David Carrillo

The A-Division Palm Springs Championship Game saw the collision of 2 undefeated teams. Both Panteras II (PII) and Flor de Caña (FDC) played extremely well the entire weekend so it was no surprise when the final game highlighted these 2 powerful squads. It would ultimately come down to the pitcher that could best withstand the other’s offense. In the end, FDC’s Cecilio Smalling, Sr. held on long enough to best PII’s Joe Edwards.

ISC 2008 Media Guide

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I haven’t gotten my hands on a copy of the ISC’s 2008 Media Guide yet, but there is a thumbnail shot of it at the official ISC website. (photo of it shown above)

Fastpitchwest’s own Maddy Flanagan had a hand in this one, including those two photos that appear on the cover. At top is a shot of Jay Herr, of the 2007 ISC II T of C champions, TNT of Lebanon, PA, hitting one of his record breaking seven home runs. Below that is a shot of The Farm’s Rod Peterson accepting the 2007 ISC World championship trophy at Kitchener, Ontario Canada. Inside the media guide you will find more of “Maddy’s Photos” taken at last year’s ISC World Tournament and ISC II Tournament of Champions. We’ll post more information on how to get your copy so keep an eye out. It’s THE annual publication in the world of men’s fastball, and you’ll want to get yours.

Orillia’s World Series of Fastball Cancelled for 2008

Friday, March 28th, 2008

From

Orillia’s World Series of Fastball Cancelled for 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORILLIA, ON, (March 27, 2008) – The ideal for Orillia tocreate an annual men’s fastball tournament was hatched on awarm July evening in 1997, when the Decatur Pride and the Owen Sound Tiremencompeted in an exhibition double-header as they traveled to the annual PerthShootout. A committee of local fastball enthusiasts was formed and aftermany meetings as well as the assistance of the Perth Shootout Chairman, Mr.Neil Fennell the inaugural “Casino Rama World Series of Fastball”was played on the 2nd weekend of June in 1998.

From the very beginning the committee members, fastballenthusiasts and some players could tell that the Orillia tournament had thepotential to be an important annual event. An annual Friday eveningtradition was started accidentally in the very first year of thetournament. As Tampa Bay Smoker teammates Darren Zack and Todd Martintraveled into Orillia with different teams and put on an extra inning 1-0pitching demonstration. From that accidental start, the World Series hasalways had a Friday night feature game to kick the tournament off in style.
