In Honor of Dewey Thompson

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

In July, we posted a note from Roberta Thompson about the Orange County Heart Walk she is doing in honor of her late husband, Dewey Thompson. The walk is coming up soon, just a week from Sunday, September 18, so if you haven’t visited Roberta’s page, we recommend it as worthy cause, and a way to honor Dewey.

Rounders Win One, Lose One, Eliminated at ASA “C” Nationals

Monday, September 5th, 2005

The El Segundo Rounders run at the 2005 ASA “C” National Tournament at Stockton, CA came to an end at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning, a 6-1 loss to BMC West, Utah, after a dramatic come from behind 9-8 win over A-1 Tank CA in an Sunday evening game. The Rounders trailed A-1 Tank, 8-7, after rallying to tie the game at 6. In the 6th, Linnell Culver hit a home run to center to tie the game, and Gerald Pyle hit a change up into the trees beyond the left field fence for the game winner. It was the same area at the same field that he had lauched a 350′ home run at the qualifier back in May. The Rounders entered the day today, 4-0, but lost a close 2-1 game to Team Taylor this afternoon, sending them into the elimination bracket. The Rounders finished the tournament among the top 8 teams out of 65, with a 5-2 record.

Amigos Win, Survive to Sunday

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

After an emotional, come-from-behind victory yesterday afternoon, (overcoming a 6-1 deficit vs. Part Time Knights, CA), the Amigos of the So Cal ASA Alliance won a blow-out Saturday night, 10-1 over Mel’s Plumbing, and advance to “Survival Sunday”. Their first game of the day on Sunday is an elimination bracket game against Black Oak Casino, CA the offensive juggernaut that scored 24 runs in their first two games, and fell to another So Cal ASA Alliance team, Rude-Pac, 11-10 in a wild winner’s bracket game yesterday afternoon. Black Oak features a couple of top ballplayers familiar to the So Cal, Mike Butler and Nate Devine, members of the ISC World tournament team, So Cal Bombers. Butler is playing shortstop for Black Oak, while Devine is pitching, something he has taken up fairly recently, and is doing very well.

The winner of the Amigos vs. Black Oak Casino game would need to win three more games at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm to make it to the final day of the tournament on Monday.

The loser of the West Coast Cardinals vs. Cyclones, OH winner’s bracket quarterfinal will drop into their end of the bracket.
