Passing of Rex Brown

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

From Malcolm Boyles, Bremerton, Washington, via Jim Williamson:

The softball world has lost a great friend. ASA Hall of Honor member and former Region 15 UIC Rex Brown has passed on. No obits yet. Here’s the information that is available so far.

The funeral’s next Tuesday, the 20th at 1:30 pm. The service will be held at the Lewis Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA. 98312. Rex was 86.

No information at this point on Mary Jane, Rex’s wife. Her health has not been good. That’s about as much as I’ve been able to find so far. When more complete information is available in the next day or so, I’ll pass it along.

More information to follow,

Malcolm

Sidney White Pizza fundraiser at Papas

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Update on Michael White’s daughter, Sidney White:

Pizza fundraiser at Papas

The attached flyer can be used all day at Coburg Rd Papa’s Pizza to help raise money for Sidney’s medical expenses. Mike and Lisa are waiting on the decision on whether to send her to UCLA or Florida for treatment. Either way the out of pocket expense for treatment alone will be over $10,000. The good news is that she has shown slight improvement and will be able to accept the treatment. The lesion is still present; they do not believe it is malignant. The bad news is that a benign tumor can cause as much damage as a malignant one.

If anyone has any additional fundraising ideas, please let me know.

Mike and Lisa are very grateful for everyone’s prayers as they continue to battle through. I believe that Sidney’s illness has made us all slow down and value our children’s health. Please continue to pray for the White family.

NOTE: We have set up a donation account at US Bank, you can make a deposit at any
branch. The account name is “Sidney White donation account”. It is VERY
important that Sidney’s name is spelled correctly or they will not be able
to locate the account.

Morning Brief’s 3000th post:

I just noticed that our post on the 19u teams in Australia was Morning Brief post number 3000. The news blog was started in March 2004, almost five years ago.

It appears that the first 7 posts back in 2004 were test posts, as the oldest remaining post is post # 8, from March 1, 2004, entitled “Lord of the Rings”.

From the “History Repeats Itself Department”: That post mentions the ISC World Tournament MVP for that year: Jody Eidt. Eidt, of course, won the award again this past summer, helping to lead the Hallman Rivershark Twins to the 2008 ISC World Tournament title.

The Morning Brief news blog uses the “Word Press” technology, a widely used platform which simplifies the process of posting new items to the website, permitting us to do so from any computer, or, even a cell phone.

Readers can peruse the Morning Brief Archives by the month, by clicking the links at the right hand side of this page under “Archives”, or can search all of the posts by using the search box in the upper right of this page.

Armand Jeannot – A Man for All Seasons

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

This story appeared in the Leader-Post during the summer, but we didn’t see it until now. Thought you still might enjoy it.

From the Leader-Post:

A man for all seasons

Julie Folk
Leader-Post

[ Regina,Saskatchewan,Canada] – Jeannot has been playing fastball for 14 years; now it’s time to set down the bat and pick up a clipboard, spending more time coaching, staying home with his family, and resting his shoulders, which have already been through three surgeries. For the past six years, Jeannot has been playing with the Saskatoon Poly Plus Senior Diamondbacks fastpitch club. While his Supreme Auto Body team in the Rambler Park men’s fastball league plays a lighter schedule, a couple of times a week, the Diamondbacks regularly travel across Canada for competition.
