Notice from Fastpitchwest to All Teams Heading to World and National Tournaments

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Good luck to all of you who are headed to World and National tournaments this month and next. Fastpitchwest invites you to tell the world how you’re doing (or how you did) by posting information to our “World and Nationals” section of the Fastpitchwest Forum.

Please use the year and tournament as your subject line of the post so people know where to post. E.g. “2006 ISC II Tournament of Champions”, or ‘2006 NAFA “AA” World Series”, or “2006 ASA “B” Nationals”. (please post under the tournament name)

We’re happy to post information that you send to us, but you don’t have to wait for us — you can do it yourself. If you’re not a member of the forum yet, the sign up is quick and easy–just a login name and password. We’ve put the activation for new members on “manual” due to spammers. (After you sign up, I suggest sending an email to jim (at) fastpitchwest.com with your log in name, and say “activate me”.)

Post a note today and tell us your team name, and which tournament(s) you’re going to!

Young Bucks 23 & Under Win National Title

Young Bucks Give Manager Clyde Bennett his First Ever National Title

From the So Cal ASA website:

2006 23 & UNDER NATIONAL CHAMPIONS – YOUNG BUCKS

The Young Bucks of Southern California finished the tournament 4 – 0 and ended two of the games via the run rule. Led by Clyde Bennett and Warren “Pinky” Allsup, this group of young men scored 33 runs while allowing only 4 runs, one earned. This was the second year that the Young Bucks appeared at the 23 & Under Nationals and have earned trips to the Championship game both years. In last year’s contest the Young Bucks defeated LeMay of Minnesota in the Championship game but had to forfeit the “If” game due to their flight back home.

This year Clyde made sure that the team could play the entire tournament as they have flights on the red eye Sunday night so that they would have no problem playing for the title. In this year’s Championship game, the Young Bucks had a rematch against LeMay who worked their way through the loser’s bracket, winning six games in a row. With Anthony Martinez in the circle, the Young Bucks took only the one game to prove that they were the National Champions and defeated LeMay by a score of 3 – 1. Anthony was on his game in the Championship as he pitched a no-hitter, allowing only one run on a walk and passed ball.

The Young Bucks were honored after the tournament as they received their Championship medallions and eight members of the team earned first and second team All-American Honors:

Team Rainey Headed to ISC World Tournament

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Team Rainey, currently the #24 ranked team in the world, is headed to its fourth consecutive ISC World Tournament, August 11-19, 2006, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The So Cal squad competed in 2003 in Kimberly, WI (narrowly missing the Sweet 16), in 2004 in Fargo, ND, and last year in Eau Claire, WI. In last year’s tournament, catcher Dwayne Fowler earned Second Team All World Honors, and pitcher Rick Smith tied an ISC World Tournament record with 20 strikeouts in one game.

This year, Team Rainey added young 22-year old pitching sensation, Sebastian Gervasutti, from Argentina, (“C-Bass” as his teammates call him) to go with now veteran ace, Bricklen Anderson, who hails from British Columbia. Team Rainey also added former Team USA catcher Todd Garcia, who formerly played for the highly regarded Farm Tavern team, and no stranger to ISC World level competition.

Team Rainey will open the tournament at 5pm EST against the #9 ranked Kegel Black Knights. Rainey notched its biggest win of the year against Kegel recently, beating them at the Boys of Summer tournament in Denmark, WI. Should they get past Kegel, they would face the host team, the Kitchener Hallman Twins, a team they lost a 1-0 heart breaker to in an extra inning marathon that ended at 2 in the morning.

Here is the complete roster for Team Rainey, who will fly into Toronto, then head over to Kitchener, less than an hour away:

ISC World Tournament Roster (pitchers in bold)

#4 Nick Medredwich
#6 Tony Acedo
