Maddy’s Monday Night Photos from Ramona, CA (USA Jr. Men & Alliance)

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Click Here to view Maddy’s Photos from the So Cal ASA Alliance weekend at Ramona, California, which included the USA U19 Jr. Men’s team.

Don’t forget — the USA Jr. Men fly out tomorrow, Tuesday, June 21, 2005 for Prince Edward Island, Canada for the ISF international competition from June 24, 2005 through July 3, 2005.

Editor’s Choice for best photo of the weekend, with a bit of story to it:

As many of you know, Maddy had never been to a fastpitch game until a couple of years ago. In a short time, as I think her photos show, she’d developed quite an eye for the game. She’s always looking for a new or interesting way to share the game with you. This past weekend, she ran over to tell me that she had something new. “I’ve got some shots”, she said excitedly, “where the guy got away!”. I don’t know whether I enjoyed the photo more, or her delight in discovering something she hadn’t seen before. [smile] Ah, the things we take for granted. John Otte, you made her day.

(Look for the whole sequence of photos of the rundown play, shortly) Oh, and no, before you ask, she was not backing up on the play.

Runnerup for editor’s choice: Impersonation of a 747 landing short on runway 2-9er right.

And finally, honorable mention, for some serious air. That can’t be his normal stride — can it? BTW, who is it (#4?)

Don’t want to wait til next edition of “Maddy’s Monday Night Photos”? Here are some links from past editions of her handiwork from the 2005 season. (Click the headline on each item to see the full text which contains the photo links).

This list was generated by using the “category” search on the right hand sidebar of the Morning Brief, selecting “Photos”. As you probably noticed, all of our posts are “tagged” with category tags, to help you find the items of interest to you, one of the many nice features of the “WordPress” software that we use to create “Morning Brief” and “The Deuce” blogs. If you haven’t used this feature, you might want to peruse the existing categories.

BTW, Maddy will be shooting Saturday at the California Area ISC tournament, so do check back on Monday night.

Fastpitchwest’s “Cover Girl”

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

The current cover photo at Fastpitchwest is a replica of the April 2005 cover of Softball Magazine, featuring pitcher Trevor Ethier at the 2005 AAU International Tournament. The magazine’s own website has a “past covers” page, with a slick rollover feature that lets you view their past covers. Click here to visit Softball Magazine’s “covers” page, and then use your mouse to “rollover” the links to see the covers for the various months. (just roll the cursor over the links, don’t click them)

The April 2005 and July, September and October 2004 covers feature photos taken by Fastpitchwest’s own photographer, Madeleine Flanagan. Maddy’s photo credits include five (5) inside fastpitch covers at Softball Magazine, as well as seven photo layouts for men’s fastpitch tournaments over the past year.

Maddy’s photos can also be found in:
*The 2004 ISC World Tournament tournament program at Fargo, N.D.;
*The 2005 ISC Championship Guide;

Most recently, one of Maddy’s fastball photos was published in The Standard, a newspaper in Elliott Lake, Ontario, Canada.

We are proud and pleased to provide Maddy’s extensive collection of men’s fastball photos here at Fastpitchwest.com for your viewing enjoyment.

Red Rock Panoramic Photo

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Here is a panoramic photo from the Red Rock Tournament.. The home plate umpire on this diamond can be excused for missing a call or two, wouldn’t you say?

It’s actually three photos in one, that Maddy “stitched” together electronically. Your browser should “shrink to fit” the photo so you get the panoramic effect, or let you view it large. It’s a very large hi-resolution image, so for you dial-up folks, it make take a bit longer to load.

Most have been able to view the photo in “shrink to fit” mode. For Firefox users, clicking the mouse on the photo will enlarge/shrink. If not, right mouse click, then “view” and it will shrink to fit.

Red Rock is still one of those places that you have to see in person to fully appreciate, but this photo captures more of its majesty than most regular photos can.

We have a second one, but have to clear some room on the site before we can upload. The rest of the regular photo galleries should be up soon, so keep an eye out.

Foul Ball Takes Out Maddy’s Lense

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

We are sorry to report that a foul ball took out Maddy’s best zoom lense Saturday night at the Red Rock tournament in St. George. She was in between shooting and helping with lineups for our Ballparkradio.com broadcasts when a hard foul ball struck the lense head on. She did take a fair number of photos before the mishap, but the galleries for Sunday will be more limited as a result.
