Fat City Wins Grass Valley Tournament

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

“The Dower Report” from Herb Dower:

Fat City won the Grass Valley Tournament over the June 21-22 weekend.

They defeated Brotherton Pipe of Oregon. which finished third in the Boatnik Tournament in Grants Pass last month, in the finals, 7-4.

In Sunday’s single-elimination, Fat City trailed one of the local teams, 5-0, going into the fifth inning before coming back to win to stay alive.

Brotherton Pipe is the same team that finished second in the Class C Nationals in Stockton while playing under the Global Pacific banner, losing in the finals to Pennslyvania Power. They are a good team.

Earlier at Grass Valley they defeated Santa Rosa Fastpitch 8-0 in five innings.

Santa Rosa was 1-2, winning its opening game Saturday 10-9 with a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and then losing Sunday, 7-5, in a five-inning time-limit game.

Sonora, CA Tournament Results from May 3-4

Thanks to Bob Chapel for this information

Attached is the wrap up for the Sonora Tournament, the final wrap up for the Single A division will be done later this week.

I wish to thank Susan Day at Black Oak Casino for sponsoring this event, making an award package possible. I hope you all had a good time at the casino, I know I had a great time. The casino was first class and everyone I talked to really was impressed. We will be back in Sonora in July so be sure and patronize Black Oak Casino.

Sonora has been such a great place to play ball but due to the high cost of running this event over the last couple of years it has been a financial disaster.

Mike Chappell and his staff at Standard Park deserve a great big round of applause for the condition of the fields and the job they did though out the weekend. The complex has never looked better.

My hat is off to each of the teams that attended a very successful tournament and I believe everyone had a great time. If you enjoyed the location. tournament and weather, I plan on making this an annual event. I would like to increase the prize package next year so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Santa Rosa Avenges Earlier Loss to Da Bruddah’s in Final

The Dower Report, from our friend in Northern California, Herb Dower:

HAYWARD–Santa Rosa Fastpitch Club rebounded from a 9-2 loss to Da Bruddah’s of Hayward in the first championship game to win the 2008 NorCal Pacific Coast C Fastpitch Championship by pounding out an 18-5 win over Da Bruddah’s in the “if needed” finals here Sunday. Brandon Shearer was the winning pitcher in the championship game. Santa Rosa never trailed after being staked to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning by a towering home run far over the right-field fence by rightfielder Dustin Green.

Da Bruddah’s, who advanced to the finals by beating Funky Monkey in the loser’s bracket finals, handed Santa Rosa ace Jeff Want the loss in the first game. Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hayward team tied the game with two runs in the fifth and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth. Third-place finisher Funky Monkey lost its opening game 7-1 to Santa Rosa Fastpitch but then win five consecutive games.
