New Image Wins 2007 NAFA AA-Major World Title

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

[West Des Moines, Iowa] – New Image (Monfort, Wisc) defeated the Black Knights (Fargo,
ND) 8-5 Sunday evening at Racoon River Park in West Des Moines to win the inaugural NAFA Class AA-Major crown.

With the win, New Image becomes the first team in NAFA history to win World Titles in back-to-back years after claiming the AA World Title last year in Appleton, Wisconsin.

New Image bumped the Black Knights into the Loser’s Bracket Saturday afternoon, forcing Kegel to play five games just to get into the Championship Game.

A win by the Black Knights would have made them the first three-time NAFA World Champions after winning the 2000 Class A Title (Fargo, ND) and the 2003 Open Title (Eau Claire, Wisc).

In the Championship Game, New Image jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBIs by Jim Peccararo and Kris Agnew. The Black Knights countered with a run in the bottom of the
first then tied the game in the second by scoring on a passed ball and a Nathan Wiens RBI single.

The Black Knights grabbed the lead by scoring an unearned run. New Image tied the game again the next inning on a Todd Burlage RBI double.

In the sixth, New Image scored three runs on a sacrifice fly by Brent Holman and singled by Harvey Knutson and Jim Peccararo.

The Black Knights cut into the lead in the bottom half with a run, which New Image countered in the top of the seventh. The Black Knights’ Nathan Weins was named the Most Valuable
Player while Jeramie Holman of New Image was awarded the Most Valuable Pitcher award.

The full list of All World Players will be on the NAFA World Series website (http://www.2007ws.nafafastpitch.com) Monday afternoon.

Spud Barker Pitches Rude Pac to “A Major” Championship, Garners MVP

From the SCIFL New blog:

in the 6th with Rude-Pac trailing 2-1, “Sup” got an on base on an error. Olin got the next two batters and “Sup” in the meantime made his way to third. Mizner drew a walk and Bobby Custairs went in to run. Javier Fierro doubled down the third base line to score Sup and move Bobby to third. CT Twisselman was up next and laid down a perfect suicide bunt to score Bobby for the lead. That’s all Spud’s needed as he shut down Olin in order for the win and Championship!.

Way to go RUDE-PAC!!!

NAFA Rosters Needed

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

From

In preparation for the upcoming NAFA World Series, all participating teams are to submit a tentative roster with numbers to the NAFA Statistician.

The NAFA World Series set a new standard by providing up to the minute box scores for games played in the tournament. We were able to do this due to use of scoring software at the diamonds that allowed for us to enter games on palm pilots and immediately download and send to the media outlets.

In order for this system to work we must have tentative rosters at least one week in advance to enter player names and numbers into the system. Rosters can be amended at the managers meeting. Teams not submitting their rosters will need to make sure this is done at the managers meeting.

Please submit rosters to nafastats@hotmail.com

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Long Beach Black Sox, Flor de Cana Top Alliance in 2007

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

From the SCIFL website:

The 2007 final Alliance Tournament Standings have been completed. No surprise in the A-Major as the Long Beach Black Sox have had a firm grip on the number one position since the second week of the season with the race for second being the position teams played for. For second, Rude-Pac edged the Panteras by two points.

The big race was in the A division between the So Cal Hustlers and Flor de Cana (Latin Heat). The Hustlers held the lead since week one but Flor de Cana kept pace and chipped at the lead each week. They finally caught up to the Hustlers to bring the teams into a tie going into the final weekend. With both teams being eliminated from the tournament at
the same point in the bracket, Flor de Cana lone win in the tournament to take sole possession of first place after the dust had settled.

Congratulations to all teams for a great season and the new Alliance Champs Long Beach Black Sox and Flor de Cana.
