Important Notes for Red Rock Players and Fans

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

From Tournament Director Ken Hackmeister:

Tim Lyon, who is currently in St. George, has given me some road construction info to be passed on to those coming to Red Rock this weekend.

Apparently, I-15 is undergoing significant construction between Mesquite, NV and St. George and, depending on the time of day, is causing some serious traffic delays. For those traveling to St. George via I-15 through Mesquite (from Las Vegas), plan accordingly.

A voice activated toll free number is available to check on road conditions 1-866-511-8824.

Remember there is a time change between Vegas and St. George. 9AM in Vegas is 10AM in St. George.

Drive carefully and allow some extra time to get there.

Lucas Mata to So Cal Bombers

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Editor’s note: Ever since County Materials claimed its second ISC World Title in 2006, then announced the cessation of operations, people have been asking:

“Where will Lucas Mata wind up in 2007?”
The answer is finally out: The So Cal Bombers.

LUCAS MATA MOVES TO MEXICO, SIGNS WITH SO CAL BOMBERS

Lucas Mata, one of the premier softball pitchers in the World has decided to move to Mexico and pursue his softball career from other than his homeland in Argentina. Mata feels he will be better positioned to compete and deal with the U.S. Visa problems he has encountered in the past, being closer to the North American softball scene. Mata was a member of World Champion County Materials team the past few seasons and was an All-World pitcher in 2003 and 2005.

The Softball Federation of Mexico, the So Cal Bombers, and Ralph Trejo Jr. have been instrumental in assisting Mata with his move. He has arranged a long term lease in Ensenada in the Baja California area of Mexico and made arrangement with the Softball Federation to work for them as a pitching instructor. Living and working in a Spanish speaking setting works well for him and positions him to better pursue all avenues of his softball career.

In addition, the SoCal Bombers are pleased to announce his signing for the 2007 season and he will be with them for all events outside of the U.S. including the World Tournament in Kitchener later this year. If Lucas is able to acquire his U.S. Visa sometime later this year, he will join the Bombers at all events.

Editor’s notes:

[Madison, WI] – Some major changes in 2007 for a team that is nearly always near the top of the heap. The most obvious is the pitching staff. Only Korrey Garreau returns. Young phenom Sebastian Gervasutti at the ripe old age of 23 is only getting better, coming off of his bronze medal performance for Argentina at the Pan-Am games that deprived the USA of a medal, and also a fine ISC World Tournament for the now-defunct Team Rainey, in 2006. Rob Schweyer also joints the staff for a solid 1-2-3 punch for the Farm. Missing from their batting order is one of the game’s premier hitters, Todd Budke, who will don a Hallman Twins uniform in 2007, playing for the ISC World host team. Also gone is former ISC MVP Ryan Wolfe. Taking over at shortstop is Vancouver’s Kevin Shellenburg, which will add power to the middle infield. Two key additions from last year’s ISC World Champion County Materials come aboard, Donnie Hale and Jeff Goolagong. It was Hale, of course, who hit the monstrous game-tying home run in the 2005 ISC World title game in Eau Claire against the Farm, depriving them of a World Title.
