Boys of Summer 2006

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Denmark, WI-The 6th Annual Boys of Summer Open tournament is only a couple days away and the anticipation is brewing high to go with the forecast. The temperatures are supposed to be approaching 90 each day this weekend witha slight chance of rain later on Sunday. It is Wisconsin and the weathermen “have trouble predicting darkness after midnight “according to one of the locals. As you know due to tremendous response in the offseason we have expanded the tournament to 16 incredible teams and has been dubbed the”mini-World”by many. We’ve added a 3rd diamond for 7 games on Saturday andoneplayoff game. I invite all fastpitch fans to take this one in as it proves to be one of the best. Circle Tap is a tremendous sponsor of fastpitch softball on both the ISC and ISCII level for 12 years and will play host to this outstanding event. The Circle Tap diamond has that old school feel backfrom the barnstorming days, so I’m told, as it’s set in the country with trees in the outfield and a cornfield in the distance. Couple that energy with a beautiful modern tavern a few steps away and you haveall you can ever ask for at a ball park. Any of your favorite drinks anda large menu of food can be consumed as you take in the games through thelarge glass windows or hanging out on the deck, or catching some rays in the bleachers, or still yet under a shade tent down the 1st baseline. If you can’t make it the 20 steps into the bar there will also again be a beergarden, can beer this year, near the 1st base dugout. New this year will be a DJ in the bar both nights for your after game entertainment. A complete schedule can be found on our website, www.circletap.minnesotafastpitch.com, but here is a completelist ofteams:

County Materials-Marathon, WIAspen Interiors-Saskatoon, SKSoCal Bombers-Yucaipa, CAPlangger’s Furniture-Benton Harbor, MIFarm Tavern-Madison, WIKegel Black Knights-Fargo, NDAlbaugh Inc-Elkhart, IATeam Rainey-Whittier, CAOrillia Riversharks-Orillia, ONCircle Tap-Denmark, WIQuad City Sox-Davenport, IADolan&Murphy-Aurora, ILPatsy’s-New York, NYTownline-Green Bay, WIMinnDak Millers-Fargo, NDStix-Bloomington, IL

I’d have to say that is one of the finest and deepest field of teams I’ve seen in an open tournament. I’ve received a tremendous amount of e-mails from fans from around the US and Canada so we’re anticipatingthe largestcrowds ever spread out over the 3 diamonds.

Thank you for allof yoursupport and interest it makes putting this monster together all that much more enjoyable. Brilliant fans and great teams make a great event. Locations-I’ve received many e-mails looking for directions. Green Bayhouses the nearest hotels as Denmark is a town of only 2000 peoplebutluckily only 15 minutes from Green Bay and directly located ona freeway. To Get to Circle Tap from Green Bay- Take I-43 South 12 milesto theDenmark exit take a right out of town, go 2 miles to highwayNN, take aright and CT will be 1/4 on your right. To Get to Denmark Diamonds from Green Bay- Take I-43 South to Denmark exit and take a left into Denmark. Go through stop sign, down thehill and youwill see an M&I Bank in front of you with a big digital clock. The UpperMemorial Park diamond is directly behind the bank. The lowerdiamond isfound in the same park, just follow the right field line about50 yards. Please let me know if you have any further questions

Rose Cup Sunday Bracket

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Lots of scores here. Click here to view bracket.

Just three teams left. Host Portland is back in the finals for the second year in a row, with two So Cal giants squaring off in a semi-final matchup that will determine Portland’s opponent.

The bracket is up to date as of this posting at 1pm PST. Only three
teams remain. Just three teams left. Host Portland is back in the
finals for the second year in a row, with two So Cal giants, Team
Rainey and the So Cal Bombers squaring off in a semi-final matchup
that will determine Portland’s opponent. In the most dramatic game
of the day, Portland and Vancouver squared off in a quarterfinal game,
a rematch of last year’s championship game, which Vancouver won. This
year, it was Portland’s turn, with Mike Piechnik picking up a 5-4 win
in 8 innings over hard throwing Nick Underhill. Portland led 4-1
before Vancouver tied it and sent it into extra innings.

The Larry Miller Hogs of Salt Lake City, Utah gave the So Cal Bombers
a run for their money, before falling 5-2. The Bombers led midway,
2-1, but the Hogs tied the game at 2 in the 4th. Ryan Brand came on
in relief to pick up the win for the Bombers.

The Bombers will face local So Cal rival Team Rainey, who always seems to play their best at Portland. Rainey was in the finals in 2003 and 2004. Young Argentine Sebastian Gervasutti has three wins while Bricklen Anderson has two, for their 5-0 record thus far. Team Rainey is ranked # 24 in the current ISC rankings, while the Bombers are #8. Rainey opened the Rose Cup tournament yesterday morning with a 4-1 win over #6 ranked the Vancouver Grey Sox.

Prince George Black Bears, BC won their morning game, but departed
early, forfeiting their semi-final with Portland.

Rose Cup Tournament Saturday Scores (Portland, OR)

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

ISC World #24 Ranked Team Rainey Upsets #6 Ranked Vancouver Grey Sox

Click link below for the complete scoreboard for the Rose Cup Tournament in Portland, Oregon. We’ve been sending out emails to our mailing list “The Fastpitch” as well. Click link at bottom of main page at www.fastpitchwest.com for “mailing list” to sign up.

Rose Cup Scoreboard

Team Rainey scored their biggest win of their season Saturday, a 4-1 win over the defending Rose Cup champion, the Vancouver Grey Sox, behind their newest addition, young Sebastian Gerutti from Argentina. Sebastian notched two wins Saturday, with mainstay ace Bricklen Anderson picking up one in his start, for a perfect 3-0 Saturday for Team Rainey.

The ISC World Rankings just released this week pegged Vancouver as #6 in the world, while Team Rainey is # 24. Vancouver entered the tournament as the highest ranked team, with the So Cal Bombers right behind, at #8. Like Rainey, the Bombers were a perfect 3-0 Saturday, with each of their three pitchers picking up a win, Travis Price, Tony Peeples and Ryan Brand.

Sean Whitten, who shone brightly at Red Rock while pitching on loan to the Bombers, notched two wins Saturday for the Prince George Black Bears of British Columbia.

So Cal’s Mark Bennett picked up two wins for the host team, CR/Portland, with teammate (and Team USA star) Terry Luster picking up one in the nightcap, giving Portland a 3-0 Saturday. Portland was the runner-up in last year’s tournament, making it to the championship game against the Vancouver Grey Sox.

The ISC II’s #16 ranked team, the Colorado Rage had a big day, knocking off the ISC World #23 ranked Houston Aces. Houston has been one of the hottest teams in the country over the past 4 weeks, upsetting #5 ranked Patsy’s at Red Rock and finishing second, followed by a title at the ISC Qualifier for the Texas region. They struggled to score runs in Portland, scoring only 1 run in three games. They beat A-1 Tank 1-0, after getting shutout 1-0 in a pitching duel between the Colorado Rage’s Kurt Tabashnuik and Houston’s Wayne Wells, before falling to host Portland, 6-0 in the nightcap.

ISC II Teams:

ISC II #16 Colorado Rage finished with the best record among the ISC II teams, with a 2-1 record, with their second win coming over a former ISC II team, A-1 Tank.

ISC II #14 ranked Lumberkings finished 1-2, notching a win over ISC II #22 JRW Associates, falling to two ISC World Tournament teams, the So Cal Bombers and the Prince George Black Bears, of British Columbia.

ISC II #22 JRW Associates also faced stiff competition, going 0-3 while playing up in classification. Like the Lumberkings, JRW had to face two of the ISC World’s best, the So Cal Bombers and Prince George Black Bears.

Play continues Sunday, in single elimination bracket play.
