#19 SoCal Bombers, #20 Team Rainey Among Those Looking for a Ticket to the Dance

Friday, June 17th, 2005

This weekend is one of the most important of the So Cal season, with the California Area ISC Qualifier at Little Lake Park in Santa Fe Springs, CA, June 18-19, 2005.

Six teams will be on hand, the best of the bunch, to decide who gets the berth to the ISC World Tournament in Eau Claire, WI and to the ISC II Tournament of Champions down the road in Chippewa Falls, WI. So Cal Bombers, Team Rainey, Mexicali, Northern Cal Mavericks, CR/DeMarini (Portland), and Raymar.

Too bad many of us will be down south in Ramona, CA for an Alliance weekend. You can get the results though, at this webpage at Fastpitchwest.

Championship game is 1pm Sunday. Two-time defending champions and #20 ranked Team Rainey tries for three in a row, and will take on the top rated team in the tournament, the So Cal Bombers (#19 in the world), at 5pm Saturday in the round robin portion of the tournament.

The Mavericks are in town from NorCal, and out to claim the ISC II berth. Raymar, third in last year’s ASA “C” Nationals among 70 teams tries to get their season on track, after the tough transition to the A/B level of play, and is equally determined to be in Chippewa Falls.

How often do you get to see pitchers like Travis Price, Bricklen Anderson, Tony Peeples and Alejandro Villalobos locally? Map and Driving Directions to the park are at the page linked above.

ISC #16 Bar on the Avenue Makes Its Case for Spot in Top 10

Thursday, June 9th, 2005

The ink is barely dry on the ISC’s June 2005 rankings, and the #16 ranked The Bar on the Avenue is already making a case for a big move upward. The Bar actually fell a couple of spots from #14 in the preseason ranking, but make a strong statement at the Grafmeier Tournament at Kimberly, WI last weekend, winning the tournament, and in the process, knocking off the following teams ranked above them:

#2 – The Farm
#6 – IS Knights
#10 – Heflin St. Louise
#12 – Quad City
#15 – Townline

It certainly cannot be said that The Bar is ducking any of the competition, playing mostly Top 20 teams enroute to their 18-9 record. This past weekend, they were led by pitchers Colin McKenzie and Mike Roberts, and hitters Josh Johnson, Jon Zipperer, Trent Noe, and Dan Wall in the middle of their batting order. The Bar will be back in action later this month, at Eau Claire.
