Day 1 Recap from ISC II

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Be sure to catch ISC II Commissioner Blair Setford’s Day 1 Recap over at our brother ISC II blog, “The Deuce”:

Day 1 – Exceeding Expectations
August 11th, 2008

With 32 excellent teams gathering in Appleton for the 2008 ISC II Tournament of Champions, there were high expectations on the part of most for this year’s ToC to be the best ever. While it’s still too early to make that judgement, it’s certainly shaping up that way as things got off to an explosive start in the first round of games and kept going all through the day.

Special Olympics at ISC – Reminder

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Just a reminder about the ISC/Special Olympics game that will be held this year. To date, I’ve heard from the following teams/groups about being part of this event.

The Bar of Appleton – Chad Mix
Thomson Merchants – Bruce Bielema
Fastpitch West – Jim and Maddy Flanagan
The Bar of Green Bay – Ric Thompson
Midland Explorers – Grant Patterson
Circle Tap – Tom Crouch
Scarborough Wolverines – Ryan Freedman
SoCal Bombers – Tony Peeples

Please email me if your team can send someone. We’d like to have as much representation as possible from the all the ISC teams.

Date: Thursday, August 14th

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Diamond 1, Sunset Park

The Blazing Stars, a Fox Valley Special Olympics team, will have about 12-15 players, and once we get the final lists, we’ll split the 2 groups up evenly so that the Special Olympics and WT players get to be teammates. Once the teams are set, we’ll play a 1-hour slowpitch game between the two teams.

The game can accomodate as many players/teams as there is interest – no one gets turned away if they want to be part of it.

Lumberkings at Vancouver Challenge

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Three Round Robin Games Saturday

The California Lumberkings will get a look at some of the world’s best teams in Vancouver, Canada this weekend at the Vancouver Challenge. The Lumberkings are currently the # 1 ranked team in the ISC II division as they gear up for a run at the the ISC II Tournament of Champions title in Appleton August 10-13, 2008. The Lumberkings narrowly missed the top spot last year, making it to the championship game before falling to the TNT squad of South Lebanon, PA. This year’s roster was bolstered by some of the top players from the 2007 A-1 Taylor Farms team, which finished third at last year’s ISC T of C, right behind the Lumberkings, who eliminated them in an extra inning semi-final game.

The Lumberkings will be missing a few of their regulars, this weekend though. Says Lumberking’s skipper, David Weldin:

“This weekend is going to be a tough weekend for us. We are missing 4 guys from our lineup. We should be able to get a lot of guys some at bats to prepare for the ToC in 3 weeks. We are going to have to play smart fundamental softball this weekend.”

Here is the schedule for the Lumberkings at the Vancouver Challenge, who will be in the “Blue” pool, with the Camrose, AB Fury, Portland, OR DeMarini, and Vernon, BC DC Arrows.

Round Robin games:
SATURDAY – July 26

10:00 – California vs. Vernon
1:30 – California vs. Camrose
3:30 – California vs. Portland

PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

SATURDAY – July 26

P1 – 7:00 – R3 vs B3 – loser eliminated – winner to P3
P2 – 9:00 – R4 vs B4 – loser eliminated – winner to P4
