Snapper Shootout Quarter Final Scores

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Blair Setford reporting in on the Snapper Shootout, one of the best ISC II tournaments of the year taking place in Virgil, Ontario, right in the heart of the Niagara Region’s wine country. Scores courtesy Dan Bernard, Niagara Snappers

9:30 am
ISC II #7 Palermo Athletics 2 ISC II #2 Tavistock Merchants 1
WP: Gord Scott
LP: Steve Cook
Palermo wins the rematch of last year’s ISC II ToC championship game. Ryan Cummings, the top pitcher at the Tournament of Champions last year is not with Tavistock this weekend.

ISC II #1 Niagara Snappers 9 ISC II #25 Glencoe Astros 8
WP: Byron Demoe in relief of Mike Bateman
LP: Jason Dawdy in relief of Dan Konkle
For Niagara, Byron Demoe 3-run HR; Trevor Falk 3-run HR
Many were expecting a match-up of Corey Costello vs. Dan Konkle, but Costello only pitched his first game of year on Friday night and after another 8 innings yesterday, will only be available for limited action today, apparently. The Snappers have scored runs by the bushel this weekend, but have also given them up that way, too.

11:45 am
ISC II #5 Oswego CPI 3 Napanee Express Jrs 2 – 8 innings
WP: Shaun Winship
LP: Jordan MacDonald
19-year old MacDonald threw most of the innings for Napanee this weekend and looked very impressive. Winship will have to carry the mail for CPI on Sunday as Shaun Samson left Saturday night for work.

ISC II #10 Elora Brewers 13 ISC II #3 Hoffman Rise 10
WP: Jeff Detta, in relief of Todd Uhrig
LP: Art Devoe
HRs: Elora – Terry Martin, Todd Uhrig; Rise – Ryan Frank (2); Bart Fenstermacher, John Hurst
Rise were up 10-6 going into the last inning when the Brewers scored 7 runs. Uhrig started and went two innings before being replaced by Detta, then came back in to finish the game.

On the field: Semi finals:
# 5 ranked CPI vs #10 ranked Elora – likely starters Winship vs Mike Pinder;
#1 ranked Niagara Snappers vs # 7 ranked Palermo Athletics – likely starters Corey Costello vs Gord Scott.
# 2 Tavistock and # 3 ranked Rise PA have been eliminated.

ISC II #1 vs. #2 Tonight at Snapper Shootout

Friday, June 1st, 2007

New # 1 Niagara Take On Defending Champs and # 2 Tavistock

[VIRGIL, ONTARIO] – When Niagara Snappers face off against Tavistock Merchants at the Snapper Shootout tournament tonight at 9:15 pm in Virgil, Ontario, it will be a battle of the top two ranked ISC II teams.

While the defending champions from Tavistock were rated #1 in the preseason rankings a month ago, news that they’ve lost three key players was enough to drop them to #2 in the latest rankings.

The top ranked Niagara Snappers failed to qualify for the ISC II Tournament of Champions, though a number of their players played key roles as pick-ups for other teams. Determined to get back to the show, the Snappers went out in the off-season and signed the top pitcher in the ISC II division, Cory Costello, who broke the ISC II strikeout record for a T of C, leading his hometown Micksburg Twins to a 3rd place finish.

The ink is barely dry on the latest set of rankings released today by the ISC II ranking committe, so we’ll see how many of them got it right. Are the Niagara Snappers the top dog to be reckoned with, or has the memory of Tavistock’s 2006 ISC T of C championship faded from the collective memory of the voters too quickly.

We’ll keep an eye out for that score and post it here.

4 USA Teams in Top 10 of ISC II

Oswego, NY Cutro Professional Inspections (CPI) is right in the middle of the top 10 at # 5, with last year’s newcomer, the California Lumberkings right on their heels at # 6. The ISC II Tournament of Champions has been dominated by Ontario area teams since its inception in 2002, though the Perkasie Rise PA squad broke into the Final Four in last year’s teams, with more USA teams looking like contenders in this year’s event.

Promo Video for 2007 ISC WT & ISC II ToC

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Courtesy Al’s Fastball via assist from our good friend Blair Setford, ISC II commish:

Thought we should share this little promo video produced by the Kitchener ISC Host Committee. The promo was produced to be played on the jumbotron at our local Ranger’s Junior Hockey games this past winter. Gives a good sense of the action that you can expect to see this August in Kitchener at the ISC World Fastball Tournament. Have a look and pass the link around. Looking forward to seeing everybody at the Ballyard in August.

I got a sneak peak at this a couple of weeks back. The producers have done a great job putting this together. I hope everyone that runs a website will provide a link to it to help promote the game.

Texaco Pirates Claim Bahamas Title

Three More Homers for Rhys Casley, Six on the Tournament to Lead the Way for the Pirates

The host Texaco Pirates from Man-O-War Cay in the Bahamas claimed the first ever Bahamas Invitational Tournament title, with 10-1 and 5-2 wins over the Presidente team from Miami Florida. For the third day in a row, Rhys Casley came up big, hitting three more homers on the day, to give him six on the tournament. For the second day in a row, teammate Barry Kahler went back-to-back with Casley, turning a 1-1 tie in the sixth into a four run outburst, and cruised to a 5-2 win. Doug Sleep was the winning pitcher, going the distance for the win, surrendering only a pair of solo home runs, one in the second and one in the 7th with two outs.

In the first game of the best of three championship series on Saturday, Texaco ran away with things, behind the stellar pitching of Rob Scheller and hitting of Rhys Casley. Casley entered the day with three home runs in the first two days, and has become the player that all of the local fans want to see hit. He did not disappoint them today, with two home runs in the first game, running his total to five on the tournament. (Casley added one more on the day, in the second championship, for six in the tournament.
