Travel League of Eastern Canada announces schedule

The Travel League of Eastern Canada, which will include five ISC teams and two ISC II teams, has announced its 2006 schedule.

League President Mr. Colin Smith announced today that the action will start Saturday, May 13 in Niagara Falls Ontario with the Snappers hosting the Kitchener Hallman Twins in a double header starting at 1pm.

Kitchener will in turn host the Niagara Snappers in Kitchener the next day, Sunday, May 14, also at 1pm.

Teams in the League this year are:

Innerkip Eagles
Jarvis Merchants
Kitchener Hallman Twins
Niagara Snappers
Ohsweken Redmen
Palermo Athletics
Orillia Riversharks

Each team will play 24 games this season, winding up with a League Playoff in Orillia Ontario on July 29-30, 2006.

The winner of the League Playoff will receive a berth in the ISC World Tournament hosted in Kitchener in 2007. Yes, the World Tournament will be in Kitchener in both 2006 and 2007!

Qualifying Tourneys Set for ISC Berths in Washington, Oregon, British Columbia Area The stage is set for competition in the Pacific Northwest which will fill a spot in the 2006 International Softball Congress World Tournament and another in the ISC Â– II Tournament of Champions. Keith Erkenbrack, Area Commissioner for Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia, has set the following dates for qualifying tournaments from his area: ISC Â–II Tournament of Champions Qualifier – – Friday June 16 Â– Sunday June l8. Editor’s Notes: Another new ISC II team on the radar for 2006, A-1 Tank, out of Northern California. A-1 has been a top ASA “B” and “C” team in recent years, and will join the California Lumberkings at the ISC II level in 2006, as well as competing in some of the top open tournaments on the West Coast. Bob Piddock works things behind the scenes, while Chris Wright (formerly of Team Rainey and the Nor Cal Mavericks) will be the on-field skipper. Plenty of pop in Wright’s bat still, so we expect to see him in the lineup as well.

Young up-and-coming stars and Team USA alternates Gerald Pyle and Craig Daniels will be among A-1’s players. Pyle brings size, power and lots of raw talent to the mound and batter’s box, while Daniels is just home from Orlando, FL where he played on the AAU Championship squad, Team USA. Pitchers Ed Gasper and Dave Dodson were teammates in 2002 when Black Oak Casino won the NAFA “A” in Salem, while Keith Frey pitched for a number of years with the Sharks of Northern Cal, including an ASA “A” runner up finish in 2003.

Oh, and then there are “those pants”. If you haven’t seen ’em, stay tuned. Can you picture the big fella wearing those stripes? 😉

I would like to introduce to the Fastball world, a new menâ€™s fastball team based out of Bakersfield, CA, (California LumberKings). Our organization is committed to bringing competitive teams to the open level for years to come. It is our goal for the 2006 season, to play in a few open tournaments this year, and to attend the ISC ll. We look forward to playing against some of the best teams in the game today, and wish everyone a successful season.

Area Commissioner Don Young has announced the details for the tournament which will qualify teams from the Utah area for both the I.S.C. World Tournament and for the I.S.C. Â– II Tournament of Champions. The competition will be held on May 27 and 28. The location will be the Cottonwood Softball Complex in Salt Lake City.
