The Santa Rosa Fastpitch team from northern California outlasted the team that dispatched them to the loser’s bracket earlier, and will be around on Sunday when the final handful of teams square off to decide the 2007 ASA “C” National champion at Killeen.

The latest report from Herb Dower. (His son Gary plays and runs the team, though he was unable to make the trip to Texas)

The young and talented Santa Rosa Fastpitch team continued its march through the losers’ bracket of the Class C National Tournament in Killeen, TX, by polishing off Cleon’s Auto of Washington, 12-4 in five innings late Saturday.

The win moved Santa Rosa into a 9 a.m. game today (Sunday) against Rico Motors of Gallup, NM. Santa Rosa, now 5-1, opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over BPA Miller Lite in a six-inning run-rule game, but then lost 10-0 to Twin Pines of Pennslyvania to drop into the losers’ bracket. They remained alive with a 15-0 three-inning run-rule victory over the Anco Longnecks, beat the Savala Painters 13-0 in a five-inning run-rule game, and then topped the San Antonio Titans 9-5 before disposing of Cleon’s Auto, 12-4 in another five-inning run-rule game.

Twin Pine, which handed Santa Rosa its only loss, has been eliminated, losing 12-5 to Rico Motors and 1-0 to Marysville VFW. Santa Rosa, which has scored 58 runs in its five victories, is guaranteed of at least a tie for fifth place in the final standings. They would have to win four straight today to win the championship.

Rockers Top Romie’s at ASA “B”

Friday, August 31st, 2007

(click logo for official site)

The River City Rockers mercied Romie’s Angels 8-0 in 5 innings. Mario Pereira led the game off with a solo home run off Tony Hunhoff to pace the Rockers. Rusty Newnan and Dany Blanco added each two-run shots. With Scott Harrison ( two hits) on 3rd and Kary Moore on first, the Rockers ran the “pickle play”. Moore starts a steal of second…stops…catcher throws down to second…Harrison breaks for home & scores…Moore into second. This was the same play “run” against Kelder in the opening extra inning game of the NAFA “AA” game to tie the game up and propel the Rocker’s to a 3rd place finish.

The umps have “settled” down and quit trying to call everything. The Rockers play Tiffany’s from Michigan in a 9 am match up with Tiffany’s bringing both pitchers from the Priority Mortgage team at the NAFA “AA” tourney and setting up an elimination rubber game.

ASA Cancels 40+ and 45+ Masters Nationals for 2007

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

While we were away, the ASA 40+ and ASA 45+ Masters Nationals, to be held in Birmingham Alabama and Gadsden, Alabama respectively, were cancelled. The 40+ national was to be held August 22-26, 2007, while the 45+ was to be held September 7-9, 2007. I haven’t heard anything as to why these two events were cancelled. Anyone know why?

NAFA will be holding their Masters tournaments at East and West locations:

East – Rockford IL, September 8-9, 2007
West – Carson City, NV, September 15-16, 2007

For more details, see the NAFA website.
