San Diego Primetime Rolls Out New Team Website

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

We are pleased to share a link to the new team website set up by San Diego Primetime , the 2005 So Cal ASA League champions. The site contains a bit of history on the team, roster, player pics and profiles, and schedule for the 2006 season. Click logo or link above to visit.

San Diego Primetime is one of the 18 “C” teams bumped up to the “A/B” division of play for 2006. They will return the successful pitching duo of Dan Zupp and Billy Montana, lose a few of the former “Edge” players, and add the powerful left handed bat of Dan Plesetz. We’ve added a link to their site on our ever-growing “Teams” section.

4 Birthdays and a Reunion

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

No, not the latest Hugh Grant movie. March 7, a birthday that I share with three other fastballers, including my last two managers, Ron Kirby and Manny Echeveste. The fourth? Both a birthday and a reunion. As many of you know, I am a new member of the Long Beach Black Sox this year, reuniting with a former teammate, Chuck Vranich, (pictured below) whose team (“The Bronze”) I pitched for in the 1983 ASA “A” Nationals in Bloomington, Illinois. (23 years ago, if you’re counting). Best wishes, guys, and just remember — I am the junior member of this club 🙂

Speaking of age, can someone tell the ASA that the term for 50+ fastballers is “Masters”, not Seniors !

Update: Well, as noted in the comments section, it appears that I am not the junior member of the March 7 Fastballer’s Birthday Club after all. Our newest member is Anthony Martinez, pitcher on the Amigos, Lumberkings and the 23-and-under Young Bucks, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on March 7. As The Kid was quick to point out, he is the true junior member of the club. Point taken, even if it ruins the play on the title to this post 🙂

Hustlers Sign “Shaw Quartet” for 2006

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

The Hustlers, runner-ups at last month’s Cal Cup II tournament, bolstered their ASA “C” Alliance roster for 2006 with the acquisition of the “Shaw quartet” of Doug and his son Matt and Kenny and his son Kasey. The Shaws played last year for Raymar, which took 3rd in the ASA “C” Nationals at Hastings, NE in 2004. After the bump up of six of the top teams to the “B” level, the Hustlers figure to be among those contending for the 2006 “C” crown. Player-manager Bobby Cole had this to say about the addition of the Shaws:

“All four will plug holes for the Hustlers offensively and defensively with Kenny giving the Hustlers a veteran second baseman and leadoff hitter. Doug, a RBI machine and a solid glove at first base. Matt, an outfielder with a cannon for an arm and one of the best young hitters in the game and Kasey, an untapped talent with tons of potential.”
