Both the Bombers and the Pueblo Bandits advanced to the final not allowing a run. That changed for Pueblo as the Bombers scored in the first inning and then exploded when Darren Box hit a grand slam off Regan Manley in the 2nd. Rude Pac Tops SCIFL “A Major” Division Again

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Thanks to SCIFL reporter, Ron Rupp:

For the second time in as many Tournaments the Rude Pac won the SCIFL A Major Championship, Beating the tough and scrappy San Diego Prime Time 4 to 1 on Sunday in Santa Fe Springs. After losing their Ace pitcher Greg “Spud” Barker on Saturday when he rolled his ankle, the Rude Pac were fortunate enough to have picked up pitchers Robbie Davis and Ronnie Mizner who recently left Northern Cals A-1 Taylor Farms, for the Rude Pac and are both quality “B” pitchers.

In the championship game Rude Pac Started pitcher Robbie Davis against the Prime Time veteran Dan Zupp who was forced to pitch back to back games after already shutting out the Long Beach Black Sox 5-0 in the 9:00 am game. Rude Pac drew first blood in the bottom of the 2nd, P. Janasko was hit by the pitch then Javier Fierro sacrificed Janasko to second. After Mizer flied out to center Bobby Casturita was safe at first on a throwing error allowing Janasko to score. Rude Pac scored again in the bottom of the 4th when Fierro singled and Mizner followed with a two run homer. Prime Times only run came in the top of the 5th when Terry Brightwell singled Eric Gierman walked on four pitches, then Joe Nuanez was hit by the pitch loading the bases. Johnny Nuanez drove in Brightwell on a fielders choice for Prime Times only run of the game. Rude Pac added one more run in the bottom of the 6th when Jose Sandoval singled followed by a Jose Hernandez single, then Janasko singled home Sandoval to
round out the scoring for the Rude Pac. Hats off to Dan Zupp for pitching back to back games on Sunday and holding the explosive Rude Pac line up to only four runs! Also a tip of the cap to veteran Robbie Davis for a great weekend on the rubber using his hard drop ball to shut out the Long Beach Black Sox on Saturday with 10 K’s in a run rule game, and then holding the hot hitting San Diego Prime Time to only one run in the Championship game!

Hustlers Take SCIFL “A” Division at Santa Fe Springs, CA

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Thanks to SCIFL reporter, Ron Rupp:

For the third time this young season the So Cal Hustlers won the SCIFL Tournament Championship game in Santa Fe Springs.
Joe “Papa” Salcido was in the circle for the Hustlers against Bobby Gonzales. In the first inning, with two aboard Jerome Morrison homered for a quick 3-0 lead. The Hustlers came right back in their half of the inning to tie the score utilizing 6 hits, including a triple by Daniel Roth. The score remained tied until the top of the fifth when the Panteras scored 3 runs. The Hustlers picked up a run in bottom of the sixth when Matt Shaw opened the inning with a double and coming around to score on Kasey Shaw’s fielders choice.

The Panteras added an insurance run in the seventh when Mike Manligus tripled in Eddie Arnel.Down three runs in the bottom of the seventh Luis Garcia singled, Ken Shaw was hit by the pitch then Dave Hess followed with a double scoring Garcia. Still with no outs Daniel Roth doubled home Shaw and Hess, to tie the game at seven runs apiece. The Panteras 2 then walked Steve Proffitt to set up the force play still with nobody out, but it wasn’t meant to be for the Panteras 2 as Matt Shaw singled on the first pitch driving home Roth to secure the 8-7 victory and the Hustlers third SCIFL Championship of 2007. Even though the Panteras 2 were unable to hold off the Hot hitting Hustlers, they proved once again they are a team to be reckoned with! This is the second time this year the Hustlers have beaten the Panteras by one run to win the Tournament. Also once again the ageless PaPa Joe Salcido outlasted the youngsters to win yet another Tournament for the Hustlers, what can you do but tip your hat to this man? Congratulations to both the Hustlers and the up and coming Panteras 2.

Vancouver Gray Sox 7
Pueblo Bandits 0

The game with Vancouver Grey Sox was a very good game until the bottom of the 5th when Regan Manley had to come out with heat and dehydration problems and Billy had to leave early Sunday so they scored 5 on our right fielder. Nick Underhill got the win.

If Vancouver and Circle Tap (neither US West teams) played for championship and Pueblo and Bombers tied for 3rd, Pueblo wins the berth since Bombers already secured a berth at Red Rock.
