Young Bucks Hosting Tournament in Santa Barbara, CA, Oct 15-16, 2005

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

Clyde Bennett’s Young Bucks 23 and under team is hosting an 8 team tournament in Santa Barbara, Sat-Sun Oct 15-16 2005:

4 game guarantee(everybody plays Sunday)
$275 first 8 teams to pay are in.
Clyde Bennett
6600 Stagecoach Rd.
Santa Barbara Ca, 93105
805-964-2114 805-895-9007

Clyde’s Young Bucks 23 and under team finished second in the nation this year, forcing an “if” game, before having to concede the game and title, due to flight schedules home.
Anthony Martinez, Jason Obregon, Kevin Castillo and Issac Hernandez all earned First Team All American Honors at that event. The team also played in this year’s Best of the West tournament, featuring young pitchers Anthony Martinez and Beau (son of Lonnie) Brooks.

Clyde (father of Mark) Bennett is a longtime player/organizer/supporter of the game. Many often lament the lack of young players in the game, but Clyde is someone who is doing something about it.

Speaking of Mark, he was named Most Valuable Pitcher as his team, Portland DeMarini captured this year’s ASA “A” National Championship.

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Just in: The Bombers have added another All-star caliber player for next weekend’s Mexicali tournament. Can you identify him? (Click link for photo and post your answer by clicking the “comments” link.)

So Cal Bombers Head to Mexicali Oct 1-2

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

The So Cal Bombers are loaded for bear, as they head to Mexicali, Mexico for their final tournament of the 2005 season, with the following roster:

1. OF – Dan Winnick – San Francisco, Calif.
2. OF – C-Rod – Huntington Beach, Calif.
3. 2B – Jason Porto – Sacramento, Calif.
4. SS – Andy Martinez – Santa Ana, Calif.
5. P – Travis Price – Corona, Calif.
6. P – Sean Whitten – Calgary, Canada
7. 3B – Glenn Ormsby – Kelowna, BC, Canada
8. OF – Greg Crawford – Calgary, Canada
9. C – Kelly Winstrem – Calgary, Canada
10. 1B – Ray Parra – Ensenada, BC, MX
11. OF – Estephan Solano – Mexicali, BC, MX
12. DH – Arturo Solano – Mexicali, BC, MX

The Bombers spent most of the 2005 season ranked as the #18 team in the World in ISC World Rankings. At the World Tournament in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in August 2005, they won their pool with a perfect 4-0 record, including a win over the higher ranked Saskatoon Aspen Interiors. The Bombers wound up facing Saskatoon in the playoff round, losing that one, but finishing 10th in the World amongst 40 teams. One of the stars of that Saskatoon Aspen Interiors team, pitcher Sean Whitten, will be joining the Bombers for the Mexicali tournament next month, along with two more players the Calgary team, Kelly Winstrem and Greg Crawford.

The 10th place finish marked the first time in more than a decade that a California team has finished in the Top 10 at the ISC World Tournament. Trivia: Can you name the last So Cal team to finish in the Top 10 at the ISC World Tournament before the So Cal Bombers? Post your answer by using the “Comments” link below.
