El Paso Steel Wins NAFA A-Major World Series
Monday, August 16th, 2010El Paso Steel won the A-Major World Series in Des Moines Iowa this past weekend going 7-1. It was not an easy saturday night after losing to Goring Law Care out of Minnesota 10-3. On sunday morning Steel came back to face a strong New York City Bombers team and won 8-4 as El Paso’s offense came to life in the sixth after being down 4-3. El Paso then had to win two games against GLC to take the world title. Tony Mancha was given the ball all day Sunday pitching 3 games and winning all three earning him the ALL WORLD MVP. Noe Soto, Lauro Felix and Hector Garcia also earned All World honors. Albert Gomez said it was a total team effort, the guys showed alot of heart and determination. In the first game Steel had a quick start scoring four runs in the first inning. Hector Garcia hit a big two run home run putting Steel ahead 6 – 2 and held the lead comfortably to win 8 – 4. In the “if” game Henry Sedillo started a big rally with a lead off single jump starting once again Steel’s big bats that lead to a 5 – 0 lead in the first inning. GLC manage to scratch 2 runs in the second cutting the lead 5 -2. Jorge Correra kept the scoring going for Steel with a big home run giving them a 7 – 2 lead. Tony Mancha kept GLC at bay mixing a variety of pitches. El Paso Steel went on to dominate the final game with the score ending at 7 -3 to win the NAFA World Series title. Robert Erives said it was a great feeling winning the title among close friends. This marks the second tournament that two southwest teams have competed well in National and World tournaments; The Las Cruces Wolfpack also won second place in Mens Class C ASA National Tournmanent in Salem, Oregon.

California A’s squeak one out at 2010 ISC WT
Monday, August 16th, 2010The California A’s only mustered two hits, but in the end, with Sean Whitten’s 14 strikeout shutout, only needed one to win their first game of the 2010 ISC World Tournament. The hit was a triple by Marcus Tan, who came home to score the game’s only run, on a wild pitch.
The # 5 California A’s squad shook off rust from late season inactivity to notch a win in their first game of the 2010 ISC World Tournament, 1-0 over an unheralded – but very tough #33 Staten Island, NY Adco Electric team that played in the ISC II division last year. Pitcher Greg Garrity kept the usually strong A’s offense in check most of the night.
The A’s will play again Tuesday night, at 9pm EDT against western region rival, the Pueblo Bandits, who came into the World Tournament ranked # 21. Pueblo has qualified for the World Tournament in 15 of the past 16 years, and has plenty of veteran experience.
