Hall of Fame Breakfast
This year’s Hall of Fame Breakfast, being held at the Great Hall/Valley Plaza and Resort, features a tremendous class of inductees – headlined by Darren Zack and Mark Sorenson. Fans should take this opportunity to show their appreciation for the careers of these two players, along with the rest of the 2010 Hall of Fame class: John Becker, Alan Rohrback, Joe Avila, the Sonnetag Family (County Materials), and Dennis Johnson.

Tickets for this breakfast are $20 and can be purchased during the opening weekend of the tournament, or either Sports Junction location (please see above for details). Youth Clinic

On the first Saturday of the tournament (August 14th), a clinic will be held at Emerson Park that will feature two of the most recognizable names in fastpitch softball. Legendary ISC, ASA and USA Softball pitcher Doug Gillis and his Academy staff will conduct a Youth Softball pitching and hitting clinic open to all softball enthusiasts who want to improve their game. The feature speaker at the clinic will be current University of Arizona coach, and Olympic Gold Medal winning coach – Mike Candrea!

Many ISC fans have seen Doug pitch throughout the years at the park, but will want to take the opportunity to hear him teach his craft. Coach Candrea is regarded by many as the greatest softball coach in collegiate history. For years, Mike has been a strong advocate of the men’s game, and his addition to the clinic shouldn’t be missed.

We think this is a great opportunity to expose the ISC World Tournament to a young group of fans as there will be games to watch after the clinic is concluded, and plenty of chances for them to see games as the week unfolds. More details to follow on this exciting piece of news!

Stay tuned for more news – the countdown is on to the start of the 2010 ISC!!!

Michigan – Again !

Monday, May 10th, 2010

You’d think something big is going on in Michigan this summer !

Courtesy Sean Kelly, Lightning Fastpitch

Petoskey is hosting the Marquardt Invitational Tournament over the 4th of July for A,B, & Open teams. I am not affiliated with this tournament at all but it is one of my favorite tournaments and I was hoping to generate some interest from other teams so that we could fill the tournament. There are currently four teams committed (Lightning, Tiffany’s, Up-to-Date Painting and Homer) and they are looking for four more teams.

See the MASA District 21 website for other tournament information and an updated list of committed teams: http://www.masad21.org/marquardt.html. If you’ve never played in Petoskey, there really isn’t a better place to play (see photo)

(click photo to enlarge)

Contact Scott Kelly at scott (at) masad21.org for more information or to reserve a spot in the tournament.

If any team is interested in going and they are short on pitching let me know. My team has two “B” pitchers that are helping us out part-time this year and they have both expressed interest in throwing in this tournament. I know that there are a couple of other teams that are not playing that weekend and they may also have some pitchers that would like to throw. Feel free to email me if you would like more information.

Editor’s note: This answers my question as to the name/location of the field shown in yesterday’s post on the Hastings Michigan team. It is the Petoskey field shown above. Does it get any nicer than that ?

Here is a bit more on the tournament from the MASA District 21 website:
