Team Rainey, So Cal Bombers at ISC World Tournament This Weekend

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

Team Rainey, 8pm PST Saturday night, Bombers 2pm PST Sunday afternoon

Team Rainey, from Whittier, CA and the So Cal Bombers from Yucaipa, CA will open their round robin play at the ISC World Tournament at Eau Claire, Wisconsin this weekend.

Team Rainey opens on Saturday,Saturday, August 13, at 10pm CST (8pm on the west coast) vs. the North Americans, from Oklahoma. Team Rainey enters the tournament as the #20 ranked team in the world.

The So Cal Bombers will open their tournament on Sunday, August 14, at 4pm CST (2pm on the west coast) against Team Iowa, from, well, you guessed it, Iowa. As many So Cal fans know, Iowa is Sonny Perkins’ team. The Bombers enter the tournament as the #18 ranked team in the world.

Each team will play four (4) round robin games in their 5 team pools, with the top two teams in the pools advancing to the 24 team single elimination Championship Bracket.

This year marks a change in the format being used. The top 10 ranked teams in the world have been placed in two “super pools”, with all 10 teams advancing to the championship round. The other 30 teams will compete in the other 6 pools.

Players Weigh in on ISC Broadcast Schedule

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

There’s an interesting discussion going on over at the GHFL.ca (Golden Horshoe Fastball League) website, about the recently released ISC Broadcast Schedule. A player from one of the 30 teams not on the schedule weighs in:

Taking a look at the broadcast schedule, it only involves the power pools. Speaking as a player involved in the tournament, a player rep, and on behalf of others, there are another 30 teams in the tournament. These other 30 teams will be leaving every thing on the field in the upcoming week. Why do the remaining 75% of the ISC fastball community have to be forgotten again.

Another argues that the fans want to hear the big name teams and players:

Name recognition…..Lets face it boys, people know the big names and they are going to get the airtime. There are going to be lots of great games all week but if you need make a schedule in advance, what direction are you going to pick…All of the games in the playoff round will be broadcast. Qualify for that and you’ll get your airtime.

Some good points being made on both sides of the issue. To read more, click here, and enter your own comment if you wish.

ASA Boys and Young Men’s Nationals

Monday, August 8th, 2005

From Al’s Fastball: ASA Boys and Young Men’s Nationals

So Cal’s Young Bucks 2nd at 23< Nationals

Monday, August 8th, 2005

Anthony Martinez, Jason Obregon, Kevin Castillo and Issac Hernandez earn First Team All American Honors

From the So Cal ASA website:

“The Young Bucks lost in the final of the winner’s bracket game to defending champions, LeMay’s, 8 – 5, but rebounded behind Anthony Martinez to defeat another strong team from Sioux City, South Dakota 9 – 2 and force a rematch with LeMay. The Championship game was a hitter’s fest that had the lead change numerous times. Anthony started the game and was relieved by Beau Brooks in the 5th inning. With the score tied at 13 in the bottom of the 7th, the Young Bucks scored the winning run and force the “if” game.

However, due to a 6:00PM scheduled game time, a flight scheduled for 9:00PM and an 1:30 drive, the Young Bucks were not able to finish competing for the National Championship and were awarded the second place trophy. Anthony Martinez finished the tournament with a perfect 4 – 0 record and Beau Brooks finished with a 2 – 1 record, including the big win in the Championship game.”
