Texas Stars Come Out of Loser’s Bracket to Claim ASA 50+ National Title

The Texas Stars returned to the top of the mountain, coming out of the loser’s bracket to beat the winner’s bracket champion, Tulsa Grey Sox twice and claim the National title in the ASA 50 and over Masters Division.

ASA 50+ Nationals Bracket Updated

Final day today, with six teams remaining, 2 in winner’s bracket, 4 in loser’s bracket. A couple of perennial contenders are in the winner’s bracket final, the Tulsa Grey Sox and the Memphis Po-Men. Jim Tennity’s So Cal Masters finished 2-2, finishing 7th. Both losses were to teams still in the hunt, the first coming at the hands of one of the winner’s bracket finalists, the Memphis Po-Men.

The So Cal Bombers finished second in their pool and will face Pool Winner, Albaugh, IA on Sunday morning, EST. They made the in the “Elite Eight”. Tony Peeples was the winning pitcher for both wins Saturday.

Marquee Match-up in First Round of Playoffs @ 9pm Tonight – #1 County vs. #2 Farm Tavern

[Boys of Summer Tournament, Denmark, Wisconsin]

The Farm Tavern team lost their final pool play game, to Albaugh, by an 8-6 score, dropping them to second in their pool. The loss sets up a playoff round game against County Materials, providing the tournament with a marquee matchup of the #1 and #2 teams in the world in the first round of playoffs, at 9pm tonight.

Boys of Summer, So Cal II

Our second report on So Cal teams and players at the Boys of Summer Tournament in Denmark, Wisconsin.

-The So Cal Bombers suffered a 10-0 drubbing at the hands of the ISC World’s #1 ranked team, County Materials of Marathon, Wisconsin. Australian lefty Andrew Kirkpatrick picked up the shutout win. The Bombers bounced back to win their third and final game of the day, a 8-0 win over Planggers Furniture, with Tony Peeples picking up his second win in as many starts. The Bombers finish the pool play portion of the tournament with a 2-1 record, good for second place in their pool (County going 3-0). The Bombers are currently ranked #9 in the ISC World rankings released on June 21.

Team Rainey dropped their third game, to pool winner Albaugh, IA, to finish pool play with a 1-2 record. Their victory was a big one though, as they knocked off the #9 ranked team in the ISC World, the Kegel Black Knights of Fargo, North Dakota. (Rainey was ranked #24 in the latest set of rankings, June 21)

Todd Budke’s Farm Tavern team lost their final pool play game, to Albaugh, by an 8-6 score, dropping them to second in their pool, behind Albaugh, IA. Albaugh entered the tournament as the #14 ranked team in the ISC World, while the Farm is ranked #2.
