McKenzie Recalls Prince George Roots

From the Prince George Citizen:

Chucker McKenzie recalls his Prince George roots

by TED CLARKE Citizen staff
Collin McKenzie was born and bred in Victoria.

Despite that, fastball fans in Prince George have claimed him as one of their own.

He earned their admiration in the five years he lived in the city in the 1990s, trying to help Prince George teams win national titles. McKenzie is at it again this week, pitching for the Prince George Black Bears as they try to reel in the city’s first Canadian senior men’s fastpitch championship.

Although the Black Bears are down to their last life in the playoffs, having lost 2-1 Friday night to the first-place St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials, McKenzie remains optimistic his team will be playing in Sunday’s final.

One-run loss to St. Thomas puts local team on the ropes

by JASON PETERS Citizen staff
The Prince George Black Bears have now lost three games in a row. One more, and their hopes of claiming the title at the Canadian senior men’s fastpitch championship will be dead.

Friday night at Spruce City Stadium, the Black Bears lost their opening game of playoffs 2-1 to the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials. As he did during St. Thomas’s 3-0 Wednesday night round-robin victory against the Bears, Centennials pitcher Frank Cox dominated on the rubber. Cox, who has already been named the most valuable player at nationals, allowed just three Prince George hits. And, the only one that did any damage was an Evan Potskin solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

Home Runs Stealing Thunder at Sr. Canadians

Eighty (80) Home Runs in Five Days

Home runs stealing thunder at nationals

by SCOTT STANFIELD Prince George This Week
The outfield fences are not any closer to home base than they were 30 years ago. If anything, a home run should be more difficult to come by, since the fence is 10 feet high, as opposed to eight feet in days gone by.

Yet there have been somewhere in the neighbourhood of 80 home runs hit after the first five days at the 2006 Canadian senior men’s fastpitch championship at Spruce City Stadium.

What’s with the outrageous number of King Kong blasts at this year’s nationals? Are the batters that much bigger and stronger than those of yesteryear? Not likely.

The answer can be found in the shaft of an aluminum bat.

Post-County Speculation….

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

The news of back-to-back ISC World Champion County Materials, WI shuttering their operation yesterday has, not surprisingly, starting people to wondering where the members of the talent-laden roster will wind up, particularly in view of the PRAWN rule adopted by the ISC last year, which places limits on the number of All World players that can be added to a team’s roster. Some speculation over at the Saskatoon Jr. Diamondback’s Forum, where the Hot Stove League is already starting to simmer:

From the Saskatoon Jr. Diamondbacks Forum
COUNTY FOLDING

Prawn will def play a huge factor in where the County players end up ….will the Kiwis and Aussies come back and play for probably less money then they earned with County…cause we all know there are only a couple of teams left that pay big money and these teams already have prawns …I wonder if another sponser will step up and shell out big money for 6 of this guys and the rest will hook up with the other big money clubs?…or will we see the county players spread themselves arround the other clubs?

FARM: rumour has them overhauling entire line up , only untouchables i see here are Gray , Budke , Twachman….maybe room for 3 prawns? (more…)

At about the 1:50 section of the clip, look over the guy who’s being interviewed left shoulder for some quick reactions. Both Killeen and Cobb County are doing a great job of keeping up on their brackets so check in on them for scores. The link is at the top of the page.

Friday night closed at the “B” Nationals with three of the four So Cal teams out of the tournament, with two of the teams taking a loss from other So Cal teams. The Savala Rounders are still in with a 1 – 2 record after taking a 7 – 1 loss in the 3:00 PM game against MoKan with Matt Barnes taking the loss.
