Vancouver Grey Sox Host New Zealand, Canadian ISF Jrs.

[New Westminster, BC] – The Vancouver Grey Sox and the New Zealand Under 19 Mens National Team completed a doubleheader at Moody Park this evening in comfortable mid June west coast weather conditions and a decent gathering of spectators. The Grey Sox downed the Kiwis by scores of 4-1 and 8-1. Results from the games are listed below.

Next action for the Grey Sox is Saturday June 14th when they will play the Canada Under 19 Mens National Team a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm PDT at South Memorial Park in Vancouver. The same two teams also have scheduled a single game commencing at 11:00 am on Sunday June 15th again at South Memorial Park.

Twelve Nations to Compete in Ten-Day Tournament

Over 200 young men (age 19-and-under) are getting set to take the field at the Pepsi Softball Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada) from June 20-29 to participate in the International Softball Federation’s VIII Jr. Men’s World Championship.

Three-time defending champion Australia looks to garner a fourth straight title at the marquee fast pitch event.

Japan and host country Canada will be seeking retribution after the Japanese finished runner-up and the Canadians took third at the 2001 & 2005 Jr. Men’s World Championships.

Other countries taking part in the event include: Argentina, Botswana, Czech Republic, Denmark, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, and Venezuela.

Botswana will be making its debut appearance at the Jr. Men’s World Championship against defending champion Australia in the opening game on June 20 at 12 p.m. (local time). Opening ceremonies will begin that day at 6 p.m., with two games following – Canada vs. the Czech Republic and, on the adjacent field, the United States vs. Japan.

The tournament will conclude on June 29 with a game at 1 p.m. to determine the bronze medalist and then the Grand Final at 4 p.m. to crown a world champion.

USA Jr. Men in Salt Lake City, Utah in Preparation for ISF Jr. Worlds Next Week

Canada’s 3-Nations Challenge Roster Announced

Softball Canada announced the 19 players that will represent Canada in the Three Nations men’s Fastpitch Softball Challenge against the U-S and Japan, July 3rd through 6th at Bob Van Impe Park.

Mark Smith of Nova Scotia is the head coach with Don Bates of Saskatoon one of the assistants. Among the players are pitcher Trevor Ethier of Saskatoon and Melfort natives Dean Holoein and Keith Mackintosh…a pitcher and infielder, respectively. All three play for Aspen Interiors of the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association. Because of their Melfort roots, that community will host a Canada-United States exhibition doubleheader on July 2nd.


Softball Canada Names Senior Men’s Roster for 3 Nations Challenge

(Ottawa, ON) – Softball Canada is pleased to announce the players who have been selected to the Senior Men’s National Team roster for the3 Nations Challenge. The tournament will be held from July 3-6, 2008 in Saskatoon, SK, when both the United States and Japan will be in town for the event. All tournament games will be held at Bob Van Impe Stadium. Prior to the event, surrounding communities will also be treated to a series of exhibition games, including a doubleheader between Canada and the United States in Melfort, SK on July 2nd.
