YouTube Classic

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

This one is destined to be a classic. (adapted for baseball from his earlier YouTube recreation of the famous Herb Brooks to USA Hockey team inspiration speech given the night they beat the Russians for gold at the 1980 Winter Olympics, “Miracle on Ice”. )

See the thumbnails on the right side at YouTube for the original versions this. Josh has appeared on a number of television shows, including “Ellen”, who gave him an expense paid trip to the Vancouver Olympics, where he reprised the speech for the USA hockey team the night they beat Team Canada. Should have brought him back to do it again before the gold medal game, eh?

Red Sox fans will love this…..and even you Yankee fans will have to smile at the kid. Check out the reactions of some of the Red Sox players towards the end of the clip. Priceless !

ISF Pitching instruction to Sudan

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

(rough translation)

ISF men’s senior head coach for Argentina will be in Sudan Sudan to teach softball for three days, from 16 to 18 April. Coach Sabate, will be giving instruction Argentina as part of society Olympafrica ISF, as announced at the end of 2009.

In preparation for the course, the ISF has sent two “starter kits” to Sudan. The boxes contain softball bats, balls, gloves, helmets and equipment for the catcher to be used by participants. Participants will be teachers, and the activity happen in indoor and outdoor facilities of Sahafa Olympafrica Centre.

Editor’s note: Eduardo Sabate is known to many of us in North America as the father of Argentine pitcher Francisco “Sisko” Sabate. Eduardo Sabate was the head coach for the 2008 ISF Argentine Jr. team which traveled to Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada for the 2008 ISF Jr. World Championships. His team turned in a game ending triple play in their first-ever win over New Zealand. Coach Sabate has moved up to coach the Argentine senior men’s team, which will compete in the 2013 ISF World Championships in New Zealand.

Additional information on ISF programs and competition may be found at the official ISF website ( by clicking this link)

SCIFL commish Robert Hernandez heads up the third iteration of the league’s favorite road trip. The neon lights burn bright at night in this desert town, but during the day, it will be fastball’s stars deserving of the attention. Games begin at 8am Saturday with the twenty-seven (27) team competing in three separate (NAFA) divisions of play. The only thing teams likely won’t find much time to do this weekend is sleep…

How I wish that there were more
Than the twenty-four hours in the day
‘Cause even if there were forty more
I wouldn’t sleep a minute away

-Viva Las Vegas, Elvis Presley

We’re not in Sin City, but will keep an eye out for scores and post up any that we receive.

Let the games begin.

One for the Highlight Reel

In a word, “amazing.”

One White Sox player whose name you should remember.

Editor’s note/update: Looks like MLB invoked copyright and took down the YouTube video. You can see the play in the “Top 5 Opening Day plays ” at the MLB website. It’s #1, so you can skip to the 1:20 mark if you like.
