Kitchener Rallies, Wins 10-9 in 13 innings in ISC Winner’s Bracket Final

Kitchener Rallies from Down 8-3 to Advance to Title Game

The Kitchener Rivershark Twins of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada rallied to tie the game in regulation, then again in extra innings, and finally, winning it in the bottom of the 13th inning, 10-9 to advance to the ISC World Tournament championship game. Ryan Wolfe singled home the game winner with the bases loaded in the 13th, in the 3 hour, 45 minute marathon. Aspen led in the game at one point, 8-3, in the top of the 4th inning, but could not hold the lead.

Steve Mullaley hit a big three run homer for Kitchener, to pull them them to 8-7 and turn it into a ballgame in the 5th, then doubled and scored the tying run in the bottom of the 7th. After Aspen’s Dale Levy homered to give Saskatoon the lead, Jody Eidt hit a homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game again, with Wolfe driving home the game winner in the 13th. It appears that Kitchener has suffered a huge loss in the game, however, as Mullaley was injured sliding into first in the 11th, and was seen after the game with a sling on his arm.

Todd Martin picked up the win in relief — coming back into the game in the 11th after giving way in the 3rd. Aspen starter Trevor Ethier suffered the loss, re-entering the game as well.

Pitchers for Kitchener were Martin, Scott, Cox, and Martin. Pitchers for Aspen were Ethier, Holoien, Smith and Ethier.

Rockers lose game 2, win game 3 at NAFA AA-Major World Series

The River City Rockers Men’s Fastpitch Team lost to the defending champions, New Image of Monfort, Wisconsin, 4-0 in the AA-Major division of the 2008 NAFA World Series being held in North Mankato, Minnesota at Caswell Park. The Rockers managed only 5 hits off their starter, Jeremy Holman. The Rockers were paced by Kary Moore who was 2-3, Rob Penticoff, Dave Bostick and Greg Rogers. Bryan Newton gave up 2 earned runs and was tagged with the loss. The loss sent the Rockers to the losers bracket.

The Rockers 3rd game saw the Rockers bounce back Saturday morning against a young Canadian team, the Pickseed Explorers of Balcarres, Saskatchewan for a 5-1 victory. Dave Drotzmann started and was relieved by Ed Gaspar who picked up the win. The Rockers received home runs from Mario Pereiro and Rusty Newnan added a 3-run shot. Rob Penticoff had a hit and base on balls and Dave Bostick also had a single.

River City Rockers Rock On at NAFA WS

The 2008 Men’s North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) is being played this weekend at Caswell Park in North Mankato, Minnesota. The River City Rockers Men’s Fastpitch Club of Sacramento, CA won their opening game Friday night, 4-0 vs. Priority Mortgage of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dave Drotzmann was the winning pitcher. Mike Abernathy was 2-4 with a double and 1 run scored. Dave Jordan had a RBI double. Dave Bostick got on base 3 times and scored once.

Canadian Teams to Meet in Winner’s Bracket Final

As the ISC World Tournament heads into its final day and towards the Championship Game at 6pm this evening, one thing is for sure — there will be a Canadian team in the finals. The Kitchener Riversharks from Ontario, Canada will be taking on Aspen Interiors from Sasakatoon, Canada. Kitchener finished as high as third in the premier event of men’s fastball, back in 2002, and was the host in 2006 and 2007, but it has been the better part of a decade since a Canadian team reached the finals.

The two teams square off today at 12 noon today, with the winner advancing to the 6pm championship game, while the loser will play at 4pm, awaiting the winner of the loser’s semi-final between Patsy’s of New York and last year’s champion, The Farm Tavern, who will meet at 2pm. All games today on the main, lower diamond at Sunset Park, at Kimberly, Wisconsin, a picturesque diamond over looking the nearby Fox River. The crowd was estimated at 5000 people yesterday for home Farm Tavern’s game against Kitchener and figures to be a packed house today for the Grand Final.

The rosters for the two Canadian teams meeting in today’s winner’s bracket final are comprised of a who’s who in Canadian fastball, and a majority of the roster that Team Canada is likely to send to the once-every-four-years ISF World Championship competition. 2008 ISC World Tournament Enters Final Day Saturday

The ISC World Tournament enters its seventh and final day on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Sunset Park in Kimberly, Wisconsin.

A pair of Canadian teams are the only two remaining unbeaten teams, Kitchener, Ontario Riversharks and Aspen. The two will square off Saturday at 12:00 noon central time.

So Cal Bombers Fall to Patsy’s Again, Finish 6th at ISC World

Both of So Cal Bombers Losses at ISC World Tournament to Patsy’s, New York

Going in to Friday night’s game against Patsy’s of New York, the So Cal Bombers had lost only one game — to Patsy’s. That one was a 13-2 shellacking, including seven home runs by Patsy’s.

Friday night, that same Patsy’s team eliminated the Bombers from the ISC World Tournament, using the long ball once again. Patsy’s slugged three home runs off starter Marty Grant, in the first two innings, for a 4-0 lead, and never looked back as the Bombers could not muster much offense against Australian pitcher Adam Folkard. Patsy’s started right where they left off the other night, as two of the first three batter solo home runs, Thomas Makea and Brad Rhona.

In the second, Omar Moraga singled and scored on a long home run by Louie Joglar. Pitcher Marty Grant and Louie Joglar traded words, as Grant took umbrage to Joglar standing at home and watching it go, and flipping his bat. Several players on each side came out, when it appeared that a hockey game might break out. Grant was replaced by Lucas Mata, who surrendered just one run the rest of the way, a solo shot by Stephen Ratu. Things quieted down, including both offenses for most of the evening, with the final score winding up 5-1 Patsy’s.

Chad Boom hit a solo home run for the Bomber’s lone run. The Bombers finished 6th in the 32 team tournament.

Bombers to Face Patsy’s at ISC World – Again

The So Cal Bombers, fresh off of their exciting, extra inning 5-4 win over # 3 ranked Broken Bow, will have to face # 2 Patsy’s of New York tonight, following Patsy’s 7-0 run rule loss to the Kitchener Riversharks. The Bombers’ only loss came at the hands of Patsy’s in their third game of the tournament, a 13-2 shellacking which included seven home runs by the New York club. The turn of events will force the Bombers to choose between a more rested Lucas Mata — who surrendered 10 of the runs to Patsy’s the other night, or veteran Marty Grant, who has pitched very well, but more innings than Mata, including a 1-0 win yesterday and most of the 5-4 win today.

The game is scheduled for 7pm central, 5pm California time, but due to the earlier Bombers-Bow game running long, the games are behind schedule. The scheduled 5pm game between Aspen and The Farm Tavern is just getting underway a bit after 7pm, meaning the Bombers game is more likely to start at 9pm central, 7pm California time.

Bombers Over Bow at ISC, to Play Again at 7pm Central Time

Dave Kimura Delivers Game Winning Hit

The A-1 Casa Trejo So Cal Bombers won again at the ISC World Tournament in Kimberly, Wisconsin, in one of the best games of the tournament, against the highly ranked Broken Bow Gremlins of Nebraska. The game featured a number of the games top pitchers, including starters Marty Grant for the Bombers and Andrew Kirkpatrick for Broken Bow. The game see-sawed, with Bow leading first, the Bombers taking a lead, Bow coming back to tie it in the late innings.

Dave Kimura delivered the game winner in the top of the 8th inning, a high hopper over the head of Broken Bow third baseman Todd Budke, scoring two to give the Bombers the lead. Bombers skipper Kelly McGiffin pressed all the right buttons, inserting Darryl Sandback as a pitch hitter for Kimura earlier inn the game, with Sandback driving in a run. Kimura was re-entered into the game and came through in the clutch with the biggest hit of the game, for the win.

Bow battled back for a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and had the tying and go ahead runs aboard, but could not cash them in against Bomber’s reliever, Lucas Mata. For Broken Bow, Denmark import Freddy Terkelsen had a home run and a double off off Grant, while veteran Jarrad Martin had two hits and drove in two of Broken Bow’s four runs.
