The International Softball Congress (ISC) will be holding the 62nd Annual Men’s World Fastball Championship Tournament from August 10 – 16, at Sunset Park, in Kimberly, Wisconsin. For the 3rd consecutive year, the ISC will roll out ISC-TV, and broadcast live web video coverage of 24 ball games. The web casts will culminate with the 2008 ISC World Championship Game, which gets underway at 6 PM on Saturday August 16th.
“We are excited about bringing the ISC-TV operation to Kimberly, which is one of the greatest fastball communities in the world,†said Dave Blackburn, ISC Broadcast Commissioner and Producer of the live web casts. “We will have viewers following the action from all of the fastball hot beds from around the globe, and all throughout the North America continent.â€
“The ISC considers our video web casts as one of the most important and popular features of our annual World Tournament.” said ISC Executive Director Ken Hackmeister. “In 2005, our final year of “audio only”, we had 15,258 listeners. In 2006 and 2007 when we incorporated video, the numbers rose dramatically to 45,000 and 58,963 respectively. Clearly, fans around the world have embraced our video web casts.”

Grey Sox in good form to defend title

Friday, July 25, 2008Ageless pitching ace Mike Piechnik will lead the Vancouver Grey Sox into the annual Vancouver Challenge Men’s Fastpitch Tournament this weekend at South Memorial Park.
The 47-year-old Victoria native is 13-1 this season for the Grey Sox, defending Canadian senior men’s champions, and ranked No. 9 in the world by the International Softball Congress.
The Grey Sox, 29-6, are coming off a four-game sweep of Portland DeMarini in Oregon last weekend and are led offensively by outfielders Rob Giesbrecht and Brian Abrey and infielder Derek Mayson.
Portland, ranked No. 30 by the ISC, is in Vancouver for this weekend’s tournament, along with the No. 11-ranked Horse Lake Thunder of Alberta, and No. 24 Pubeblo, Colo., Bandits. Those three teams, plus the Grey Sox, are tuning up for the ISC world championships Aug. 9-16 in Kimberley, Wisc.
Filling out the eight-team tournament are the Bakersfield, Ca., Lumberkings; the Camrose, Alta., Fury; Vancouver South Hill Giants and Vernon DC Arrows.
Games begin tonight at 6:30 p.m. and continue all day Saturday and Sunday morning. The championship final is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 a day or $10 for a tournament pass.

Three Round Robin Games Saturday
The California Lumberkings will get a look at some of the world’s best teams in Vancouver, Canada this weekend at the Vancouver Challenge. The Lumberkings are currently the # 1 ranked team in the ISC II division as they gear up for a run at the the ISC II Tournament of Champions title in Appleton August 10-13, 2008. The Lumberkings narrowly missed the top spot last year, making it to the championship game before falling to the TNT squad of South Lebanon, PA. This year’s roster was bolstered by some of the top players from the 2007 A-1 Taylor Farms team, which finished third at last year’s ISC T of C, right behind the Lumberkings, who eliminated them in an extra inning semi-final game.
The Lumberkings will be missing a few of their regulars, this weekend though. Says Lumberking’s skipper, David Weldin:
“This weekend is going to be a tough weekend for us. We are missing 4 guys from our lineup. We should be able to get a lot of guys some at bats to prepare for the ToC in 3 weeks. We are going to have to play smart fundamental softball this weekend.”
