(Chilly) Cinco de Mayo at Albuquerque

Maybe this year it should have been the “Chilly de Mayo”. Cold weather was the name of the weekend.
With temperatures in the 40’s the 11 team field opened up the Summer season in the Southwest.
The Third annual Cinco de Mayo was different because of the weather but the results were the same.

This years Champion was 3 time champion “the Wolfpack” from Las Cruces NM. The Tourney was
called on Sunday afternoon With only the Championship game Left to play. With the weather in the low 40’s
and a wind chill in the 30’s the Tournamet was stopped after discussions with the last two teams involved.
The weather was 40 degrees below the average and injuries were mounting. Both Teams agreed that stopping
play was the best thing to do.

Tourney MVP, Tony Mancha Pitched and Hit the Wolfpack to the undefeated position of the tournament. The
Wolfpack had Tournament victories over the Ray’s Auto Bulls and to Albuquerques 2nd to None, Waiting for
the Championship game the Wolfpack watched. 2nd to None defeat the Ray’s Auto Bulls in the third place
game 9-1..All Tournament Pticher Harold Redhouse had ptiched the 2nd to None to three tournament victories.
The Ray’s Auto Bulls had a very nice Tournament losing their frst game and working through 5 loser bracket
games to finish 3rd. The Tournament Directors (Joe Baca) Alb. Risers had their Highest Finish ever at 4th Place.
WIth the Wolfpack undefeated and 2nd to None with one lose it was a team and tournament decision to stop
play and rain, sleet and cold weather prevailed.

Although Mother Nature had the advantage this weekend it was a great start for all the teams involved.

NY Gremlins 2010 (AAU)

Looks like team photo day at the Morning Brief. Here’s one of the New York Gremlins at the 2010 AAU tournament in Orlando, Florida. With the beefed up roster, including Travis Wilson, look for the Gremlins to be among the top ranked teams in the ISC pre-season rankings.

Canada East qualifier reminder

With teams starting to get their first taste of action in the next few days, I want to take this opportunity remind you of the two Canada East ISC Qualifiers in Innerkip & Napanee June 18-20 plus the “Last Chance” qualifier in Port Huron June 25-27.

Spots are limited in all of these tournaments and entries will be decided on a first-paid entry basis.

A total of five berths to the 2010 ISC World Tournament in Midland, MI are available to won.

Parana Tops Buenos Aires for Argentine title

Paraná Team has just crowned Men´s National Champions, beating Buenos Aires for 7 – 0 in five innings.

The winning pitcher was Jose Guerrinieri, who combined with Matias Tessore to launch no hit, no run. In the attack, and Nicolas Gustavo Guerrinieri Bittor homered and drove in two runs apiece for the winning team. In individual awards, Bittor was named MVP of the event, with a .692 average, while Guerrinieri was the best pitcher, with two wins, without getting runs.

Paraná again demonstrated its power in the men, winning the final difference of seven runs in the fifth period. José Guerrinieri was unreadable during the four periods worked, getting seven strikeouts (all consecutive), yielding no hits and only giving a free ticket. Guerrinieri received the baton of Matthias Tessore in the fifth inning. On the offensive side, the team scored three runs Entre Rios in the first inning when with two outs Guerrinieri Gustavo, Gustavo Godoy and Nicolas Bittor scored on three straight hits. In the third inning Paraná load again, scoring two runs thanks to a kilometer Guerrinieri home run, to bring the dish to Fernando Petric. And the end of the meeting would come at the end of the fifth inning when the score was 5-0, with Johnson in the initial Mariano Nicolas Bittor hit another huge home run to push the last two races of the championship.

The losing pitcher was Tom Kuperman, who allowed six hits and seven runs, striking out a batter. Buenos Aires had agreed to the final thanks to victory over Delhi by 9-6 in the playoff game. For its part, the champion also won his place in the final against South team in the Province of Buenos Aires, surpassing by 3-2 in the first semifinal.

Thus came to an end the men’s national tournament, with Paraná established as the national monarch for the third consecutive time. In second place was Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca was third, fourth and fifth La Pampa, Santiago del Estero.
