Circle Tap wins TownLine Shootout

The Circle Tap Fastpitch team captured the 1st ever TownLine Shootout held in Green Bay, WI. The weather was a perfect upper 80’s low 90’s all weekend. The crowds were good the whole weekend and the tournament seemed to run along very smoothly. Circle Tap went 4-1(17-7 overall) on the weekend in taking home the title. Missing this week were Chad Ferguson, Paul Algar, Chris DeLarwelle, and Kevin Reichardt. Darren Derricks is still on the DL. Collin McKenzie (back issue) will be day to day. A thank you goes out to local catcher Brian Lemmens who caught a game for us on the weekend, and also Jason Wandler and Roman Foore who stepped in and played the final 4 innings of the Championship game due to flight issues.

This was a nice tight ball game to kick off the tournament between a pair of local clubs. The game was scoreless through 4. In the bottom of the 5th Steve Schucker drew a one out walk and was knocked in by a Tom Crouch double. In the 6th Tim Jorgensen singled and with two out Jamie Knudson, Kyle VanAbel, and Steve Schucker each singled and then Crouch hit a 3 run
triple to make it 5-0. Crouch 2×3 2B, 3B, 4RBI. WP:Matt Bramwell(5-1) 13K 1HB

This game was all The Farm. Robbie Schweyer threw a gem for the Farmers. Jason Hill broke a scoreless tie in the 2nd with a solo blast. In the 3rd Jeff Goolagong hit a two run shot and Dan Smet followed with a solo homer to make it 4-0. WP:Rob Schweyer 8K 3BB 1HB LP:Collin McKenzie 8K 1BB

In the top of the first CT pitcher Collin McKenzie left the game with two outs with a back injury.
The Tappers came out in the bottom of the 1st as Kyle Magnusson hit a one out double, then with two outs Frankie Perez picked up an RBI single followed by a Tom Crouch RBI single giving CT a 2-0 lead. The Bahamas took the lead in the game in the top of the 3rd as William Waterford
walked and scored on a Landy Rodriguez home run. Barry Kahler then singled and scored on a Louis Joglar home run giving the Bahamas a 4-2 advantage. CT struck right back in the bottom half as Kyle Magnusson singled and then scored on a Tim Jorgensen two run shot. In the 4th the
Tappers crossed six more runs. Kyle VanAbel lead off with a double, Schucker picked up an RBI single, Magnusson and Jorgensen walked. Frankie Perez grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring a run, Crouch walked and then Matt Bramwell crushed a 3 run shot. Magnusson 2×3 2B, Bramwell 2×3

This is the 3rd match of the year between these two local rivals. The first two games were very tight but CT broke this one open early. In the 1st Kyle Magnusson, Tim Jorgensen, and Frankie Perez each drew one out walks. Tom Crouch hit a two run single and Kyle VanAbel would hit a two run single to make it a 4-0 game. Gustavo Guerinieri hit a solo homer in the 2nd to make it a 4-1 game. Steve Schucker picked up an RBI single in the 3rd. In the 4th Tom Crouch reached on an error scoring a run. In the 5th Bryan Hansen hit a double and Tim Jorgensen knocked him in. With the bases loaded Frankie Perez was hit by a pitch which brought in Schucker.

The Tappers avenged a pool play loss to The Farm taking the championship game from the cross state rival. Steve Schucker led off the game with a solo shot. CT took a 2-0 lead on a solo shot from Kyle VanAbel in the 3rd. The Farmers made it a 2-1 game in the bottom half on a Jeff
Goolagong solo homer. CT got solo homers from Frankie Perez(4th inning) and Kyle VanAbel(5th inning) to make it 4-1. The Farm made it 4-2 as Goolagong picked up a base hit and would later score on a sac fly by Ryan Kostel. With the game running late and Farm flight issues the teams agreed that after the farm batted in the bottom of the 6th, that they would bat their 7th inning immediately after. Should they even the game or take a lead then CT would be allowed to bat their half of the inning. However, Farm didn’t score, game completed.
