SUMMERSIDE — The Scarborough Wolverines and defending champion Kelly’s Pub Canadians from Newfoundland and Labrador are tied atop the standings of the Canadian junior men’s fast pitch championship.

Both teams sport 3-0 records.

Monday, the Wolverines overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Saint-Leonard Express from Quebec 2-1 in eight innings and blanked the host P.E.I. Source for Sports Twins 10-0 in five innings under the lights.

Scarborough blew the game against P.E.I. (1-1) open with a five-run second inning to open up a 7-0 lead.

“It was a tough result,”said Twins assistant coach Todd Richard. “One big hit put us behind the 8-ball a little farther than we wanted to be early.”

Andrew Putham, who connected for a second-inning grand slam and also tripled, drove in six Scarborough runs and Nick Dambrosio, who also hit a triple, plated three runs.

Winning pitcher Matt Leahy and Greg Dalgarno combined to limit the Twins to three hits. P.E.I. starter Neil Arnold suffered the loss.

Jeremy McKinnon, Mike MacIsaac and D’Arcy LaPierre had the Twins’ hits.

The Canadians received a grand slam from Jon Kane and a three-run blast from Ken Gosse in a seven-run third inning in a 9-2 five-inning victory over Miramichi (N.B.) Vics in the afternoon. In an early-evening matchup of two undefeated teams, the Canadians edged Elmira, Ont., 5-4 in a wild game.

In other games Monday, it was: Elmira 5 Nova Scotia 4 (8 innings); Simcoe 8 Quebec 1; Simcoe 5 Saskatchewan 4; Nova Scotia 11 New Brunswick 2 (6 innings).
