Santa Rose Survives to Sunday at ASA “C” Nationals

The Santa Rosa Fastpitch team from northern California outlasted the team that dispatched them to the loser’s bracket earlier, and will be around on Sunday when the final handful of teams square off to decide the 2007 ASA “C” National champion at Killeen.

The young and talented Santa Rosa Fastpitch team continued its march through the losers’ bracket of the Class C National Tournament in Killeen, TX, by polishing off Cleon’s Auto of Washington, 12-4 in five innings late Saturday.

The win moved Santa Rosa into a 9 a.m. game today (Sunday) against Rico Motors of Gallup, NM. Santa Rosa, now 5-1, opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over BPA Miller Lite in a six-inning run-rule game, but then lost 10-0 to Twin Pines of Pennslyvania to drop into the losers’ bracket. They remained alive with a 15-0 three-inning run-rule victory over the Anco Longnecks, beat the Savala Painters 13-0 in a five-inning run-rule game, and then topped the San Antonio Titans 9-5 before disposing of Cleon’s Auto, 12-4 in another five-inning run-rule game.

Twin Pine, which handed Santa Rosa its only loss, has been eliminated, losing 12-5 to Rico Motors and 1-0 to Marysville VFW. Santa Rosa, which has scored 58 runs in its five victories, is guaranteed of at least a tie for fifth place in the final standings. They would have to win four straight today to win the championship.
