We received the following note from Hillel Horwitz in the UK, looking for a pitcher for the Maccabiah Games for the Summer of 2009:
The Great Britain Maccabiah Fastpitch softball team needs a pitcher. As you may know, GB is not a hotbed of fastpitch pitchers, let alone Jewish ones. Every Maccabiah we have the same problem of probably having enough players for a GB team, but not having a pitcher. So, we are searching…..
The Maccabiah Games is the Jewish equivalent of the Olympics, held every 4 years in Israel, with the next one in summer 2009. It is an amazing experience. Opening ceremony in a packed 40,000 seater stadium, very well organised, and great fun.
We are looking for someone:
· That can pitch half decently! We don’t require a semi pro or anything, just someone competent that can chuck the ball reasonably accurately, at reasonable speed.
· Not already recruited by the US Maccabiah team
· Jewish, or have at least one parent or grandparent that is Jewish
· They need to be able to take off around 2 weeks in the summer of 2009 to come to Israel to play
· Doesn’t mind playing with the GB team
· Intending to spend some time in the UK would be a real bonus, but if we can’t find a pitcher here (unlikely), we intend seeking dispensation for a pitcher based abroad.
