The USA Junior men dropped their opening night game to the 2005 Silver medalist team from Japan. Japan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and never surrendered the lead. The USA tied the game at 1 with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning, cutting a 3-1 lead to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Japan added an insurance run in the 6th for the final 4-2 victory. USA made the most of their three hits, but were outslugged by Japan, 8 hits to 3, while committing 2 errors.
