Vancouver Grey Sox Stay Hot, Run Record to 31-4-1

Vancouver, BC

GAME 1 Vancouver Grey Sox 3-7-0 Vancouver Meralomas 0-4-1
WP- Rick Smith (11 K’s)
LP- Derek Mayson

The Sox scored a single in the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth. The Meralomas loaded the bases in the first with two scratch singles, but Smith worked out of it and was in command the rest of the way. CF Scott Newitt tallied the first run and went two for three with a double and a walk to lead the Sox offence.

GAME 2 Grey Sox 3-6-0 Meralomas 2-3-2
WP- Nick Underhill (11 K’s)
LP- Mike Egerdeen

The teams traded runs until the seventh when Scott Newitt dashed home on an Evan Potskin single to end a tight game. Potskin had a pair of hits and Derek Mayson slugged an RBI triple for the Lomas.

GAME 3 Grey Sox 5-7-0 Meralomas 0-2-1
WP- Rick Smith (10 K’s)
LP- Derek Mayson

Potskin scored single runs in the first and third to give the Sox an early lead. DP Bryan Mayson delivered a three run homer in the bottom of the sixth to salt away the win. Once again Smith shut out the opposition.

GAME 4 Grey Sox 13-15-2 Meralomas 4-1-2
WP – Nick Underhill LP – Dean Webster

A six run uprising by the Grey Sox in the second inning put the game out of reach early. The Sox pounded out 15 hits in a ragged affair. C Kris Waverick and SS Kevin Schellenberg drilled homers while OF’s Jeff Kawaguchi and Potskin each had 3 hits.

The Grey Sox 2005 record is now 31-4-1. We will be off for the next two weekends while several players participate in a training camp for the Canadian National Team.

Next action is the Vancouver Challenge Tournament July 29-31, featuring Broken Bow, Saskatoon Aspen Black Sox, Calgary Smokers, the Grey Sox, Prince George Black Bears, and Van City. Conrad Margolis, Vancouver Grey Sox From: “Conrad Margolis” conradmargolis@telus.net
