The Long Beach Black Sox arrived in Prescott Arizona with high hopes of winning the ASA B Nationals. They began play friday night at 7 PM under perfect weather conditions. Ron Rupp took the hill for the Sox. They played Eggen Weed Control from Prescott Arizona. Eggen took a early 1-0 lead in the 1st on a solo home run. Long Beach would strike back in the 2nd inning. Chris Paiva was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning. With 2 outs Chris Martinez singled to left scoring Paiva making the score 1-1. Jason Obregon reached on an error than Fred Hanker singled to right scoring Martinez making the score 2-1 Long Beach. Chris Minogue singled scoring Obregon making the score 3-1. Ron Rupp was dominant holding the score there until the 5th when Eggen scored another run on a Aaron Owens RBI groundout making the score 3-2. The Sox defense was flawless behind Rupp committing no errors. In the 7th Rupp retired the side 1-2-3 for the 3-2 win. Ron Rupp in his complete game 7 hits and had 5 K’s with 1 walk. Chris Minogue led the 5 hit Sox attack with 2 hits and a RBI. Fred Hanker was 1-3 with a RBI. Chris Martinez was 1-2 with a RBI and a run. Ken Shaw was 1-2 and Joe Janecki off the bench was 1-1. Jason Obregon 1-4 with a run. Chris Paiva was 0-2 with a run scored. Matt Shaw was 1-3 in the 5th spot. The game also marked the debut of Anthony Martinez who flew out to left in a pinch hit at bat. Ken Shaw hurt his ribs and was removed from the game and his status was uncertain for the rest of the tournament. Joe Janecki was 1-1 in relief of Shaw. Long Beach will now play the very powerful Innovative from Utah at 2PM Saturday.
