ASA Major Tournament Gets Underway Thursday, Aug. 4

Rod Peterson’s Farm Tavern Set to Defend ASA Major Title

The ASA Men’s Major Tournament gets underway Thursday at 6pm EST (3pm west coast time), at Altamonte Springs, Florida, with two opening round games:

The Farm Tavern, Madison, WI vs. Quaker Riversharks, PA
Tampa Bay Smokers, FL vs. Keating Fitness, PA

The Farm Tavern has won the tournament the last two years in a row, and will go for a “three-peat” in 2005. Last year, they were led by pitcher Dean Holoien, who set a new ASA record for 21 strikeouts in a game, and threw a no-hitter in the championship game win over Broken Bow. Rumor has it that a couple of local (and well known) So Cal players will be wearing the Farm’s familiar “pig” logo tomorrow night, joining another Californian who is a regular member of the squad Todd Budke, while a Northern California player may be in a Riversharks uniform. Budke was a First Team All American at third base in last year’s tournament.

The winner of the Farm-Riversharks game will play Florida Fastpitch, which drew a first round bye, while the winner of the Tampa Bay-Keatings game will face Team Iowa, which got a first round forfeit/bye with the So Cal Bombers dropping out of the tournament.

The six team tournament runs through Saturday night. Click here for the bracket.
