El Paso Steel Wins NAFA A-Major World Series

El Paso Steel won the A-Major World Series in Des Moines Iowa this past weekend going 7-1. It was not an easy saturday night after losing to Goring Law Care out of Minnesota 10-3. On sunday morning Steel came back to face a strong New York City Bombers team and won 8-4 as El Paso’s offense came to life in the sixth after being down 4-3. El Paso then had to win two games against GLC to take the world title. Tony Mancha was given the ball all day Sunday pitching 3 games and winning all three earning him the ALL WORLD MVP. Noe Soto, Lauro Felix and Hector Garcia also earned All World honors. Albert Gomez said it was a total team effort, the guys showed alot of heart and determination. In the first game Steel had a quick start scoring four runs in the first inning. Hector Garcia hit a big two run home run putting Steel ahead 6 – 2 and held the lead comfortably to win 8 – 4. In the “if” game Henry Sedillo started a big rally with a lead off single jump starting once again Steel’s big bats that lead to a 5 – 0 lead in the first inning. GLC manage to scratch 2 runs in the second cutting the lead 5 -2. Jorge Correra kept the scoring going for Steel with a big home run giving them a 7 – 2 lead. Tony Mancha kept GLC at bay mixing a variety of pitches. El Paso Steel went on to dominate the final game with the score ending at 7 -3 to win the NAFA World Series title. Robert Erives said it was a great feeling winning the title among close friends. This marks the second tournament that two southwest teams have competed well in National and World tournaments; The Las Cruces Wolfpack also won second place in Mens Class C ASA National Tournmanent in Salem, Oregon.
