journey with Canada Cup "

(Ottawa, ON) - Softball Canada’s Women’s Olympic Team will be competing in
its first competitive event since the selection of the Olympic Squad. Team
Canada will showcase its Olympians when they compete in the 11th Canada Cup
at Softball City in Surrey, British Columbia running July 3-11, 2004. A
15-member roster, full of talented and enthusiastic athletes was announced
in May and will realize their dream when they represent Canada at the 2004
Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Head Coach Mike Renney states: “With 44 days left until the Olympic Games,
the Canada Cup will provide us with an excellent opportunity to measure our
preparation for Athens. The Canada Cup provides us with World Class
competition at home and will serve as an ideal Olympic send-off." "The
Canada Cup draws large crowds and will serve as a good training environment
for what our athletes could expect from the Athens' fans," added Renney.

The Olympic Team will begin their competitive journey to the Olympic Games
at the 11th Canada Cup when they face other Olympic bound countries and
many other club teams throughout the world. The Canada Cup, one of the
best international fast pitch events for women’s softball in the World,
will be featuring many of the best of the best in women’s softball. The
Canada Cup provides the opportunity for the Canadian National Teams to
receive international experience, to expose the athletes to the best in the
world and the chance to play in front of their home country as well as to
promote women's softball to Surrey and surrounding communities, the
Province of British Columbia and the World.

Along with the Women's National Olympic Team, Softball Canada will also be
fielding the Canadian Development Team. The Development team includes top
fast pitch softball players from across Canada and the Canada Cup will
provide these athletes with international competitive experience.

Following the Canada Cup, Team Canada will travel to:

July 14 – 18 Champions Cup – Irvine, California
