Storm squeak out two wins
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Storm are lucky to have come away from back to
back Source for Sports Men's Intermediate Fast Pitch League action with a
pair of wins, after rallying late and letting a five-run lead slip away.
The Storm scored four runs in the seventh to beat the Wellington Arsenault
Saw Mill Jacks 9-6 Tuesday night in Abram-Village before giving Larry
Gallant the pitch9inmg win in a tight 11-10 eight-inning win over the Moase
Plumbing and Heating Midgets Wednesday in St. Louis.
On Tuesday, Mark MacRae (2-4 with a triple, home run, three RBI and two
runs scored), Cody Chgaisson (3-4 with two singles, a double, two runs
scored, stolen base and two RBI's), Derek Bernard (1-3 with a two-run
blast, walk and stolen base) and Brian Greenan (1-4 with two runs scored)
led the attack.
Jon McNeil (1-3 with a sac, single and two RBI), Moe Cormier (3-3 with a
run scored), Jamie Perry (2-4 with a home run, double and two RBI) and
Gerald Gallant (2-4 with run scored) supplied the offense for the Jacks.
Winning pitcher Jamie Betts threw four and two thirds, allowing five hits
and fanning eight batters/ Wayne Wilkie pitched two and one-third in relief.
Losing pitcher Lucas Arsenault went three and two-thirds, allowing four
runs on four hits, walking two and striking out one. Shawn Gallant pitched
three and one-third inning as he mopped up.
On Wednesday night, the Storm let a 9-4 lead slip away as the Midgets came
close to stunning the Storm in picking up their first win of the year.
However, it wasn't to be.
With rookie starter Matt Bernard, 14, at the plate for his fifth at bat and
the bases loaded, Midgets pitcher Ryan Ferrish walked Bernard bringing home
Cody Chaisson (1-4 with a walk and single) with the game winning run in the
bottom of the eighth inning.
Also leading the Storm were Bernard (3-3 with three singles, two walks, two
runs scored and three RBI), Mark MacRae (2-5 with two singles, RBI and two
runs scored), Joey Chaisson (3-3 with a double, two runs scored, stolen
base, walk and two RBI) and Brian Greenan (1-5 with a two run double).
For the Midgets, their scoring details were unavailable.
Winning pitcher Larry Gallant went the distance, allowing 10 runs. Losing
pitcher Ryan Ferrish went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits,
three walks and one strikeout. Shawn Bernard started the game and went five
innings before being pulled from the game.
No details on Wednesday night doubleheader in Summerside between the Twins
