White Sox keeps hopes alive at Canada Cup

Sunday July 11th

A two run rally in the fifth inning has seen the New Zealand women's
softball team continue in the international Canada Cup tournament with
victory over the Schutt Hurricanes.

Playing in the top eight playoffs the Kiwis were too strong for the
American based club side as they ran out winners 2-0 in Surrey, British
Columbia.

Wellington's Api Stone O'Kane opened the scoring in the fifth inning coming
home on a hit from captain Fiona Timu after originally getting on base with
a one base hit. The run scoring continued when Karlene Louden running for
Timu scored on a single by Talilotu Tonu'u.

While the Kiwi batters did just enough with the bat pitcher Ali Arnold was
dominant on the mound refusing to give the Americans any chances. Arnold
faced 25 batters giving up three hits and one walk and taking seven strikeouts.

The White Sox continue their playoffs journey with a must win match against
the Japanese Elite team this morning at 11.30am (NZT). When the two sides
met in section play the Japanese side ran out convincing winners 7-0 but
when it comes to the playoffs past results count for nothing.
