Canada Secures Spot in Prague Softball Cup Final



(Ottawa, ON)



After a disappointing day Friday, Canada bounced back with a pair of wins 
on Saturday to secure a berth in Sunday’s final against Chinese Taipei.



In their first game Saturday, Canada pounded out 8 hits on the way to an 
8-1 mercy-rule victory over the Netherlands.   Canada struck for single 
runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings, before erupting for 6 runs in the 4th.



Offensively for Canada:  Alison Bradley (1H, 1 RBI), Erin Cumpstone (1H), 
Cindy Eadie (1H), Jackie Lance (1RBI), Sheena Lawrick (1R), Angela Lichty 
(1H, 3 RBIs), Kristy Odamura (2H, 3R), Sasha Olson (1R), Kim Sarrazin (1H, 
1 RBI), Rachel Schill (1H, 1R), Erin White (1R).



On the mound, Lauren Bay pitched a complete game for the win allowing 1 run 
on 2 hits, struck out 10 and walked 2.




In their second game, Canada shut out Chinese Taipei 3 – nil.



Canada scored all their runs in the 5th inning.  Jackie Lance came up with 
the big hit for Canada, hitting a triple to drive in Kristy Odamura and 
Rachel Shill.  Kim Sarrazin drove in Lance with a single.  Canada left 9 
runners on base.



Offensively for Canada:  Rachel Schill (4H), Jackie Lance (2H, 2RBIs, 1R), 
Kristy Odamura (1H, 1R), Kim Sarrazin (1H, 1 RBI) and Cindy Eadie 
(1H).  Odamura continues her hot hitting with a sizzling .526 batting 
average in round robin action.



Kaila Holtz picked up the win for Canada.  Holtz pitched a complete game 
shut out, gave up 2 hits and struck out 3.  Su-Hau Lin suffered the loss 
for Chinese Taipei.



Canada finishes the round robin in second place with a record of 4 and 
2.  Chinese Taipei took first place honours with a 5 and 1 record,  The 
final will feature the rubber match between these two Olympic bound 
rivals.  The bronze medal game will pit the Netherlands against the host 
Czech Republic.

Netherlands 3 – Czech Republic 2

Canada 8 – Netherlands 1

Canada 3 – Chinese Taipei 0
