Vancouver, BC

The 3rd Annual Vancouver Challenge Mens FP tournament continued on Saturday
under sunny skies and warm temperatures at South Memorial Park in
Vancouver. Results were as follows:

Portland (Oregon) DeMarini Merchants 4 - Lower Mainland (BC) Premier League
All Stars 1
WP - Kevin Careless
LP - Mike Egerdeen
* Dean Waltier homered for Portland

Victoria (BC) Travellers Inn 7 - Olympia (Washington) Morgan Transfer /
United Van Lines 0
WP - Collin McKenzie, with relief from Korrey Gareau (5)
LP - Bricklin Anderson
* Collin McKenzie left the game with what is described as a minor groin
pull and was removed for precautionary reasons. Jeff Hurford lead the
Victoria attack with a 3 run home run in the first inning.

Olympia Morgan Transfer / United Van Lines 2 - Portland DeMarini Merchants 0
WP - Bricklin Anderson
LP - Roberto Bahler

Victoria Travellers Inn 7 - Lower Mainland Premier League All Stars 0 - (5
innings)
WP - Rick Smith
LP - John Bishop

Portland DeMarini Merchants 8 - Vancouver (BC) Grey Sox 7 - (8 innings)
WP - Kevin Careless
LP - Sean Whitten in relief of Nick Underhill and Joe Robbins
* Portland battled back from a 6 - 1 deficit, to take the lead 7 - 6, only
to have the Grey Sox tie it, and then the Portland side prevailed in the
8th inning under the international tiebreaker rule. Sean Whitten suffered
the hard luck loss in relief for the Grey Sox without giving up an earned run.

Olympia Morgan Transfer / United Van Lines 6 - Lower Mainland Premier
League All Stars 2
WP - Sisko Sabate
LP - Danny Valachy

Vancouver Grey Sox 3 - Victoria Travellers Inn 2
WP - Sean Whitten
LP - Korrey Gareau
* the fans were treated to a good ball game between the two teams, which
had everything from solid pitching, fine defensive plays, close calls both
ways and included an incident that cleared the benches. However cooler
heads prevailed, with no ejections, and credit goes to the umpires who did
a good job of restoring order, and both teams who re-focused and continued
providing good entertainment for the fans.

Standings after Saturday's games
1. Victoria Travellers Inn, 2 wins / 1 loss - +13
2. Vancouver Grey Sox, 2 wins / 1 loss - + 3

With 2 round robin games remaining a lot is still at stake. All 4 clubs
still have an opportunity to finish first and receive a bye to the final,
pending the outcome of their final round robin game. As well with a loss,
a single team is facing elimination from the playoff round.

the final
4:00 pm - winner 2:00 pm game vs. 1st place - Championship Final

events in the next month. ISC World Tournament teams - Victoria (ranked
7th), Portland (ranked 13th), Olympia (ranked 30th) will be travelling to
Fargo, North Dakota in mid August for the ISC World Tournament. As well
the Vancouver Grey Sox will be representing British Columbia at the
Softball Canada Nationals in late August in Nova Scotia.

Final results of the Vancouver Challenge will be provided on Sunday evening
at the conclusion of the event.
