Canada Wins Prague Softball Cup

(Ottawa, ON) In a wild final game, Canada defeated Chinese Taipei 7-5 to
win the 2004 Prague Softball Cup.

Canada came out firing in the top of the first inning and struck for 4

sacrifice bunt. Alison Bradley singled to drive in Odamura for Canada’s
first run. Jackie Lance then singled to put runners on the
corners. Angela Lichty drove in Bradley with a hit. Lance and Lichty both
scored on Chinese Taipei throwing errors.

runs in the bottom of the second. Canada committed 3 fielding errors in
the second which resulted in 3 unearned runs for their opponents.

The game remained 5-4 for Chinese Taipei until the top of the sixth when
Canada struck for 3 runs. Kim Sarrazin walked and was replaced by pinch
runner Erin White. Sheena Lawrick singled to put two Canadian runners on
base. Erin Cumpstone then stepped up to the plate and belted a triple to
right field to drive in White and Lawrick with the games decisive
runs. Sasha Olson drove in Cumpstone with a sacrifice fly to make the
final score 7-5.

On the mound Canada used all 4 of it’s pitchers. Auburn Sigurdson started

down into a pretty good game after that”, stated Coach Glenn
Boles. “Winning this game is a great positive for us in our last game
before the Olympics.”
