Subject: Quaker Riversharks win the first annual Keating's Pennsylvania
  Invitational Tournament

Lebanon, PA

This past weekend, the Quaker Riversharks traveled to Lyons, PA to
participate in the first annual Keating’s Pennsylvania Invitational
Tournament. The Riversharks played well and came away with the
Championship.

The field consisted of six solid teams, with a round-robin format. The
playoff round had team 1 playing team 2 for first place and team 3
playing team 4 for third place. Lyons is a great softball complex with
good lights and great food.

The Riversharks opened up Friday night against the always dangerous
Armour Rise club. They are capable of beating any team on any given
night. They showed how tough they can be, as they were beating Quaker
late in the game until a "questionable" call resulted in things
unraveling for the Rise. Quaker felt fortunate to escape with a 6-4 win
given that they could only muster 2 hits. The good news is that one hit
was a grand slam by Todd Moyer. Reno Lato took the win with a save going
to Dan Konkle.

Next up for the Riversharks was Landis. Mike Smith took the ball and
threw a 2 hit shutout. The Quaker bats exploded for seven runs with the
big blow coming off the bat of Frankie DeGroat. DeGroat hit a monster
3-run home run that went well into the corn field in left field.

Quaker next gave the ball to Dan Konkle for the Orr Park game. This is a
solid ISC II team that should make some noise out there later this
month. Quaker pushed across three runs as they beat Orr Park 3-1 in a
well played game.

Konkle kept throwing as the Riversharks next played the host team
Keating. This game felt different as both teams complained about several
calls and Keating had several players out of position. In the end,
Konkle threw a one-hitter as Quaker took the game 2-0.

In the fourth and final game on Saturday night, Reno Lato got the ball
and the win against Ricolla. The final score was 9-2 as a lot of players
chipped in with key hits. One highlight was a double by the ageless
wonder, Joe Roslin, that knocked in two runs.

With five wins, Quaker had the number 1 seed and had to play Orr Park
again on Sunday afternoon for the championship. Reno Lato took the ball
as he threw a gem winning the game 6-1. Frankie DeGroat and Walt Evans
chipped in with doubles and Chad Oechsle hit a home run.

The Riversharks played good defense committing only 4 errors in 6 games.
The hitting was led by Paul Batt (5-12 with 3 RBIs and 2 SBs), Brad
Theys (5-14 with a triple, 4 runs scored, and 2 RBIs), Chad Oechsle
(5-16 with a HR and 3 RBIs), Frankie DeGroat (4-11 with a HR and 7
RBIs), and Mike Smith (4-12 with 6 runs scored). Reno Lato was 3-0 with
1 save. He pitched 20 innings, had 23 K’s, and gave up only 4 earned
runs. Dan Konkle also threw well pitching 14 innings with 16 K’s and
only 2 earned runs. Mike Smith was 1-0 with 8 K’s and 0 earned runs.

The Most Valuable Pitcher for the tournament was Reno Lato and the Most
Valuable Player was Todd Moyer.

Next up for the Riversharks is a trip to the NSA World Series this
upcoming weekend at Salem VA.
