Traveller's Inn fastball win first game at ISCs

Attn all sports media:

Four home runs on the offence and a 12-strikeout performance
from pitcher Rick Smith carried Traveller's Inn to a 6-2 victory
over the Bloomington, Illinois Stix in opening round robin action
at the International Softball Congress world men's Sr. A fastball
tournament in Fargo, North Dakota Sunday.

Traveller's got all the runs it needed in the third inning, as
shortstop Marty Steen led off with a homer and left fielder Harvey
Stevenson Jr. followed later with a two-run shot that brought
in right fielder Zenon Winters.

Solo homers by second baseman Dan Whiteford in the fourth inning
and first baseman Kevin Bobroske in the fifth padded Victoria's
lead, while catcher Craig Crawford knocked in centrefielder Jeff
Hurford to make it 6-1 in the sixth inning.

Traveller's managed eight hits in all off Stix pitcher Adam Folkard,
who also went the distance.  Stevenson was the lone Victoria
batter to get multiple hits, going 2-for-3 on the day.

Bloomington's Vic Johns tagged Smith with three of  his team's
seven hits, one of which was a solo homer, and hit in both of
his team's runs.

Victoria's next pool game is Monday at 8 a.m. Fargo time,  6
a.m. Victoria time, against the Ashland Coors Light from Ashland
Ohio. They play a total of four round robin games, the top two
teams in each pool advance to the playoff round. 
The tournament runs all week with the final slated for next Saturday,
Aug. 21.
