The Lake Simcoe Lightning competed in The OASA Mens C Championships this
past weekend in Wiarton Ontario, bringing home a fourth place finish. The
Lightning opened up the tournament Saturday morning with a 3-1 victory over
Fitzroy Harbour. David Eschli got the victory for Lake Simcoe with Todd
Hamblin going 3 for 3 at the plate. Later that afternoon the Lightning
played the host Wiarton Busman, downing the hometown team 3-2 Rick May
earned the victory with Eschli coming in for the save. Saturday nights
action saw the Lightning defeated 2-0 by the eventual Bronze medalist,
Blackburn team. Relegated to the losers side, the Lightning opened sundays
games against the Port Elgin Blue Devils. John Zeiger opened the game with
a lead off home run and Al Cox added another to score three runs en route
to a 6-4 victory, Rick May earned the victory going 6 innings Dave Eschli
mopped up the 7th. The Lightning's final game of the tournament took place
Sunday afternoon, getting beat soundly by the Highgate Rock, the Lightning
only managed one hit in five innings before being mercied 8-0. Highgate
went on to play Chestow Aces in the final.
Lake Simcoe Lightning finish the tournament in fourth place with a record
of 3 wins and 2 losses.
