Softball awards night could be a Black Sox benefit

Wednesday August 18th

The annual New Zealand Softball awards dinner in Lower Hutt this weekend
could turn into a Black Sox benefit as they sport looks to celebrate
outstanding achievement in the 2003/2004 season.

Looking back at the season the highlight was obviously the victory by the
Black Sox at the world championships in Christchurch earlier this year.
Awards will be presented on the evening for outstanding players in the in
men's and women's game, emerging stars, coaching and administration with
the overall winner taking out the prestigious Softballer of the Year award.

The theme for the evening will be "World Championship Success" and
presentations will included a DVD of world champs highlights, a panel
discussion on Black Sox new v's old guard while the speaker for the night
will be Black Sox photographer Kevin Clarke.

New Zealand Softball chairman Dale Eagar says it is important to celebrate
success and Saturday night August 21st will be a chance to do just that.

"The thing about the Black Sox is that there are so many things to
celebrate. Firstly that they won the title and secondly the fact that they
defended the title recording a history breaking three peat and then there
is the celebration and recognition of what the team and management did to
get to the top," said Eagar.

Also as part of the evening there will be new inductions made to the
Softball New Zealand Hall of Fame.

The awards evening is all part of the sports annual AGM and Conference
which will be held in Lower Hutt over the weekend. The event will be a
chance to discuss all aspects of the sport from the New Zealand Community
Trust National League, through to coaching and the development of youth
players.
