East Hants, Conception Bay Storm advance to semis

ALBERTON - The East Hants High Tide and Conception Bay South Storm have 
advanmced to semifinal play at the 2004 Tignish Credit Union Bantam Eastern 
Canadians in Alberton, P.E.I.

East Hants will face Ontario 2 Scarborough Sabrewolves (3-0) after beating 
Newfoundland and Labrador rep Placentia Lions 8-0, while CBS Storm will 
tackle Ontario champion Napanee Express after taking out Musq. Hbr. 
Mariners 4-0. Napanee beat Richmond 8-1 in their final game Saturday morning.

The High Tide were led by Zach Sill (3-3, two runs scored, two doubles, 
RBI), Justin Dillman (2-2, two runs scored, RBI) and Bryan Gillis (2-2, 
triple, three RBI).

For Placentia, Johnny O'Reilly (1-2), Colin Whiffen (1-2) and Craig Edmunds 
(1-2).

Winning pitcher was Tim Colbert while O'Reilly takes the loss.

Napanee Express and Scarborough Sabrewolves had byes into the semis by 
finishing first with 4-0 and 3-0 records.

Games begin at 9 a.m. a nd11a.m.withconsolationfinalforthirdset for 1 and 
the championship at 3 p.m. All games are at Memorial Park.

STORM TOP MARINERS

Leading the Storm was Travis Rideout (1-2, run scored), Nick Young (1-3, 
RBI) and Andrew Murphy (2-2, three RBI).

For the Mariners, Marcus Paris (2-3, two stolen bases) and Charles Thoms 
(1-3) were tops.

Winning pitcher was Andrew Murphy while Andrew Connelly and Thomas McKay 
combined to take the loss.

AWARDS PRESENTED

Awards will be handed out for top batter, round robin mvp, top pitcher and 
MVP (tournament overall, incl playoffs) following the finals Sunday afternoon.

MARINERS WIN WHEN IT COUNTS

The Musq. Hbr. Mariners were down to their last lives trailing 4-3 in their 
win or go home final round robin game - and they lived to see another game.

The Mariners rallied and scored four runs while giving up just two more to 
beat the Placentia Lions 7-5 before going onto face the CBS Storm where 
they were eliminated from further action.

Thomas McKay (2-3, RBI, run scored) and Marcus Paris (2-3, run scored, RBI) 
led at the plate.

For the Lions, Johnny O'Reilly (3-4, three runs scored, double, RBI, home 
run) and Craig Edmunds (1-4 RBI) supplied the offense.

Mariners coach Howard Hawkins was pleased with his team's game.

"It showed a lot of character for us being down in that last game (losing 
4-3 to Placentia before rallying," he said. "That helped us get some 
momentum, but it wasn't enough.

"This was a good experience for the guys and we'll look at this to build on 
for the future."

MACISAAC K'S 10 IN A'S WIN OVER CBS STORM

Mike MacIsaac struck out 10 to lead the Murphy's Ultramar A's to their 
first win at the Bnatam Eastern Canadians with an 8-6 decision over the CBS 
Storm (NL2).

The A's seemed energized over their second place showing at the skills 
competition the night before and showed that beating out 12 hits for eight 
runs on Sean Quinlan and Andrew Murphy.

MacIsaac (2-4, two RBI, double), Matt Campbell (1-2, run scored, two RBI), 
Scott Bernard (1-3, two runs scored, walk) and Mitch Morrissey (1-2, 
triple, stolen base, two runs scored).

For the Storm, Quinlan (1-3, two RBI) and Jeff Ennis (2-3, two RBI were tops.

Winning pitcher was MacIsaac while Quinlan and Connelly took the loss.
