Due to other commitments both awards for AUG 22-29 and AUG 30-SEPT 5 player 
of the week award are being announced in this one report, as the STORM 
played four games in the past 2 weeks while other teams ppd games due to 
players attending the well-run SR MEN'S NATS in WINDSOR, N.S.

Wilkie, Broderick earn weekly honours

ALBERTON - Wayne Wilkie and Jonathon Broderick of the St. Louis Storm are 
the Source for Sports/Alberton Sports 'Player of the Week' for the period's 
Aug 22-29 and Aug 30-Sept. 5

Wilkie was 3-5 at the dish and picked up a win over the Moase Plumbing and 
Heating Midgets Aug 29 - a 4-0, four inning decision.

The hard throwing pitcher picked up two doubles, a single, a walk, a stolen 
base, two runs scored and five RBI in the two games against the Midgets. 
St. Louis took game two 7-0.

Wilkie's offensive outburst brought his season totals to a .306 batting 
average with five runs scored on 11 hits, 10 RBI and four walks. Prior to 
the past two weeks, Wilkie was hitting a mere .185.

Broderick had the big stick in a 7-5 come-from-behind extra inning win over 
the Summerside Twins Sept.1 in game two of a home and home doubleheader at 
VIV Field in Summerside. St. Louis took game one 4-1 behind a strong outing 
by Broderick to improve to 16-10 on the season.

In game one, Broderick pitched a complete game three hitter, allowing one 
run, walking three and fanning 13 for the win.

At the plate, the Alberton native who now calls Charlottetown home went 
3-for-7 with two singles, two runs scored, a home run and six RBI in the 
two games.

Broderick is hitting .362 with 12 runs scored, 21 hits, two home runs, six 
walks and 17 RBI.

On the slab, Broderick is 4-4 (won-lost) with an ERA (earned run average) 
of 3.61 while Wilkie is has an ERA of 4.70 and a 1-3 record.

Others considered this week included Twins' Shannon Ellis (3-7, run scored, 
two walks, RBI, double), Scott Bridges (0-2 (won-loss), 12 innings pitched, 
13 hits allowed, eight runs,three walks and five strikeouts) and Ian Power 
(3-8, two runs scored, triple, RBI).
