Evodrive Series officially opened
Wednesday February 2nd 2005

Rotorua International Stadium was the stage this afternoon for
theofficial opening of the Evodrive Series which will see the
New ZealandCommunity Trust Black Sox taking on some of the best
teams from aroundthe world over the next four days.

As part of the opening the Black Sox were part of a parade of
teams alongwith Australia, Japan, Samoa and the All Stars. Rotorua
mayor KevinWinters welcomed the teams to Rotorua and wished them
all well for anexciting four days of softball ahead.

Following the opening ceremony a celebrity match was held as
a team oflocal identities pitched their sporting talents against
a collection ofplayers taking part of the series. A feature of
the teams was thecoaching of The Mad Butcher Peter Leitch who
had the dubious honour ofcoaching both sides.

Given the good nature of the game it was widely agreed that the
team oflocal identities came out on top and there was even suggestions
of themkeeping the team together to compete in the series.

The fun nature of the opening ceremony will be put to one side
tomorrowwhen the Evodrive Series gets underway with the opening
game at RotoruaInternational Stadium between the Black Sox and
Samoa at 11am.

The series runs for four days with all teams completing a double
roundrobin before the top three sides play off in a finals series
on SundayFebruary 6th.

The Black Sox haven’t taken to the diamond as a team since theirvictorious
feats at the 2004 World Championships where they claimed theirthird
consecutive world title.

While it may have been a year since their last game together
the team aredetermined the continue the Black Sox winning way
during the series asthey set the platform now for their long
term goal of successfullydefending their world title in 2009.
